Study shows shrinking waistlines hits fertility rate

THE modern generation of women, with successful careers and high stress levels to match, could find their super-powered lifestyle is affecting their

    fertility

    .

An international comparison of women in 37 different populations and cultures shows that career women are more likely to look like Keira Knightley than Marilyn Monroe, even though the hourglass figure has previously been linked with improved fertility.

The research, published in the recent issue of the journal Current Anthropology, examines the shape of women around the world by comparing their

    waist-to-hip ratio

, which is calculated by dividing a woman’s waist circumference by the circumference of her hips.

University of Utah anthropologist Professor Elizabeth Cashdan

says there is evidence the hormonal profile linked to a slim-waisted, non-curvy shape favours women in “resource competition, particularly under stressful and difficult circumstances”.

The study suggests women who experience heavy work stress and are driven to succeed suffer a hormonal shift with their oestrogen levels affected by increases of androgens, hormones linked to competitiveness and strength.

    Professor Cashdan says a

small waist and large hips have significant fitness benefits for women

    .

    Those

    women with a waist-to-hip ratio of 0.7,

meaning their waist is 70 per cent the size of their hips, are less prone to chronic disease and are typically considered to be more attractive.

For a comparison, the study looks at the measurements of 240

    Playboy centrefolds

and finds they have an average waist-to-hip ratio of 0.68.

The average female waist-to-hip ratio is 0.82

    .

Fertility Society of Australia president Professor Peter Illingworth says it is accepted that

extremes in body shape can affect fertility

    .

“If women are severely underweight or severely overweight, it affects the way that they ovulate and it affects their capacity to carry a child,”

he says. He describes the anthropological findings as “interesting” and relevant on a wide scale.

“I think we’re looking at subtle effects across a whole population rather than an effect that would make a big difference of an individual woman’s chances of having a baby.”

Youth worker lures teen boys anxious to learn dating tips

The simple flyers distributed around Brisbane promise teenage boys the stuff of which dreams are made. "

    Attract and understand women

," the flyers say, with the details of a free seminar that will "

shift your thinking to become a dating machine"

    and "

    radiate coolness and irresistibility

    “.

For all the promises, the flyers are scant on details - such as who can guide you through this transformation.

    Instead,

teenage boys looking to become a babe magnet

    are directed to

    Understand Women

    .

Teresa Lewis - who conceived the flyers and will run the

seminar for boys aged 13 to 18

    - said the simple marketing campaigning aimed at tapping into a tech-savvy demographic already had proved a success.

More than 100 Brisbane teenagers had signed up for the Fortitude Valley seminar on June 12. Lewis almost needs a separate flyer to explain her background. She is a youth worker, who works with teenagers recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. She is also a life coach, a clairvoyant, an “intuitive consultant”, a mentor and a marriage celebrant.

Lewis said the idea for the seminar - and the planned consultancy services to follow - was a combination of several ideas.

There are already businesses who teach similar dating skills to single adults. Also, as a youth worker, Lewis said she saw the way teenage boys struggled with self-confidence and communication skills.

“This is about learning how to get past those social barriers, even if you’ve got pimples and you’re totally hormonal,” she said. Lewis said the seminar was not about helping hormonal youth have

    sex

    . “It’s about

    understanding women and attracting women

, but not with the goal of crossing that line.”

Sex not the top male priority - study

MEN who tell women they value relationships over sex now have the weight of numbers to back their argument.

Almost 28,000 randomly selected men, aged 20 to 75, from

the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico and Brazil

responded to a standardised telephone interview about their attitudes to life and sex.

    The results, published in

    The Journal of Sexual Medicine

, showed men overwhelmingly rated attributes such as being seen as a man of honour and having the respect of your friends ahead of having success with women when assessing masculinity.

When it came to quality of life, one-third of respondents said being in

    good health

was the most important factor, followed by a

    harmonious family life

    (26 per cent) and being

in a good relationship with their partner or wife

    (19 per cent).

Just two per cent put a satisfying sex life as their top priority

    .

“Taken together, this body of research underscores the centrality to men of non-sexual aspects of the male identity (and) emphasises the importance of the couple relationship,’’ German researcher Michael Sand said.

Women more promiscious at sex than men

    , more unfaithful

YOUNG women are becoming more promiscuous, with more sexual partners than men.

By the age of 21 they have had sex with an average of nine lovers - two more than their male partner

    .

Today’s young women have been brought up on the bold and brazen bedroom antics of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her friends, the Daily Mail newspaper in the UK reports.

The “anything goes” sexual antics in

    Sex and the City

    and more recently,

    Desperate Housewives

    and for a short while,

    Lipstick Jungle

, is being played out in real life.

    And

a quarter of young women have slept with more than 10 partners in the five years since losing their virginity - compared with a fifth of young men

    .

Young women are also twice as likely to be unfaithful, with 50 per cent admitting they have cheated on a partner - half at least twice.

Yet if their man was caught being unfaithful, 99 per cent of the 2,000 women surveyed said they would show him the door.

The sex survey, for More magazine in the UK, also found women crave more sex but still believe men enjoy it more than they do

    .

The survey follows a US study earlier this year that found teenage girls who watch a lot of TV shows with a high sexual content, such as Friends, Desperate Housewives and Sex and the City, are twice as likely to become

    pregnant

    .

The researchers for that study concluded: “One problem is that these and similar programmes glamorise sex while hardly mentioning its downsides, such as pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.”

Lisa Smosarski, editor of More, suggested that there will be no turning back for today’s sexually confident young women.

“Our results show that after decades of lying back and thinking of England,

today’s twenty-something women are taking control of their sex lives and getting what they want in bed

    . And why not?

“Women today have increasingly busy and stressful lives juggling study, jobs, friends, family, career and their relationships,” she said.

“Sex is a great and free way to relax, unwind and have fun in today’s fairly stressful society.”

The survey found more than half of the women were not in love with the person to whom they lost their virginity.

    And

only 32 per cent believed love to be an important factor before having sex.

Seven out of ten confessed to having had a one-night stand and a fifth had enjoyed more than five

    .

Only 1 per cent said they would wait until marriage to have sex.

One in four said they would marry for money

    whilst

39 per cent would sleep with their boss for a promotion

    .

27 per cent would have an affair with a married man

    , while

14 per cent would sleep with their best friend’s partner

    .

    It found that almost

a fifth of the young women surveyed had contracted a sexually transmitted disease while 21 per cent had been persuaded by a man not to use a condom when they wanted to

    .

“Whilst women aren’t embarrassed to take the lead in the bedroom, it seems they’re not so forthright when it comes to contraception.” Ms Smosarski said.

    Science students ‘most likely virgins’

Male science students ‘most likely virgins’

Female arts stuents ‘most sexually active’

    Little knowledge of STD chlamydia

MALE science students are a university’s most likely virgins while females who study arts subjects are the most sexually active

    , Australian researchers say.

A pilot study conducted at the University of Sydney saw 185 students, aged 16 to 25,

quizzed on their sexual history and awareness of the sexually transmitted disease chlamydia.

It found arts students were “younger, more likely to be sexually active and to report having little or no knowledge of

    chlamydia

    ‘’.

“Males in the study were less likely to have had sex as a group compared to the group of females in the sample,’’ said the study, published in the journal Sexual Health.

    "

Science students were also less likely to have had sex compared to their counterparts in other faculties

    .''

Commenting on the research findings, Sydney-based psychotherapist Stephen Carroll said cultural factors would have played a role in the results, as many international students came to Australia to study science.

More female students (78 per cent) than male (22 per cent) agreed to take part in the extensive survey. More than half (66 per cent) of all respondents said they would be comfortable with their doctor performing a test for

chlamydia, which can cause infertility in women

, although they rated their personal need for a test as low. “Findings suggest that the most at risk group for chlamydia infection is not well educated about their risk of infection,’’ the study found.

The study was undertaken by researchers including Dr Melissa Kang, attached to

the University of Sydney at Westmead Hospital

, who has previously investigated Australia’s rising rate of chlamydia infection. Dr Kang found

    infection rates

in women aged 20 to 24 quadrupled from 335 cases per 100,000 people in 1999, to 1300 per 100,000 people last year.

Females aged 15 to 19 had the second highest rate and young men aged 20 to 24 the third.

Any brothers or sisters can explain why women breasts are getting bigger?

This is real articles. Read below:-

Boom in bust sizes for Aussie women, buying DD or higher

By Elle Halliwell, April 05, 2009

THE bra market is expanding, literally. Up to 40 per cent of Australian women now buy bras with a cup size of DD or higher

, new figures from lingerie suppliers show.

    In the

    1950s, the most common bra-cup size was a B

    - three sizes less than a DD.

Modern breasts are getting so large that some bra companies have introduced cup sizes as high as K

. Experts blame the cleavage boost on obesity, contraceptive pills and artificial hormones.

sales of DD-plus bras have grown from about 20 per cent of sales to 28 per cent in just five years.

Many lingerie labels such as Berlei and Triumph are now offering G cups while Fayreform, Freya and Le Mystere are producing select styles up to a size J.

Berlei brand manager Jane Edser said the company’s range of bra styles, available in DD-plus, had, increased since 2005 from 75 per cent to 83 per cent, to cater for the growing market.

Bra company Eveden Australia launched a K cup into the market last year. The company’s fitting specialist, Victoria Jubb, said obesity contributed significantly to the expanding chest sizes but the number of small-figured women with large breasts was on the increase.

“We’re noticing a lot more girls with small backs and bigger bust sizes being fitted,” she said.

    Eveden’s top-selling size is a 10G.

As women’s chests have grown, the number of breast reductions have doubled

in the past decade, said cosmetic surgeon Mark Goyen. “There’s definitely been an increase,” said Dr Goyen, who runs Sydney surgery the Alia Clinic. “I was doing about 10 to 15 female breast reductions a year, now I’m doing 20 to 30.

“There’s no question that because the population is bigger their breasts are bigger as well, because it’s all fatty tissue. “As women get older the amount of fatty tissue increases, and also the proportion of fat increases.”

Sydney cardiologist Ross Walker said artificial oestrogens found in foods, plastics and cosmetics had also contributed to the growth spurt.

Oestrogen in contraceptive pills also spurred the growth of breast tissue

, Family Planning NSW research director Edith Weisberg said. “I think the higher-dose pills could, because the oestrogen causes development of the breast tissue,” she said.

Larger, more cumbersome breasts often discouraged women from exercising

, said body-image expert Jenny O’Dea, Associate Professor at the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Education and Social Work. Dr O’Dea said that makes it even

harder to lose the weight and can lead to further increases in breast size

    .

“One thing I find in my body-image research is that girls and women with large breasts tend to avoid sport and physical activity because it becomes a bit bothersome,” she said. “They stopped exercising when they developed large breasts, whereas we want big women to do the complete opposite and be as physically active as they can.”

    Man caught in "

    high-speed sex

    " with woman on lap

April 13, 2009 - From correspondents in Oslo

Man caught having sex while speeding

Clocked at 133km/h with woman on lap

    Faces driving ban, heavy fine

A NORWEGIAN man faces a heavy fine and a driving ban after police caught him

having sex with his girlfriend while speeding on the motorway

    , police said today.

    The unnamed couple, a

    28-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman

, were caught in the act late on Easter Sunday by traffic police on the E18 highway, some 40km west of Oslo.

Officers who clocked the couple’s silver Mazda 323 racing at 133km/h in a 100 zone realised they were doing more than just breaking the speed limit

    , police said.

It was veering from one side to the other because the woman was sitting on the man’s lap while he was driving and doing the act

, shall we say,” said Tor Stein Hagen, a superintendent with Soendre Buskerund district police.

He couldn’t see much because her back was in the way. Why they did it on a highway with such a high risk we don’t know

    .”

After following the couple for nearly a kilometre, officers pulled the car over at a service station. Tango “We have taken away his driving licence because of the danger that he caused,” Supt Hagen said.

Prosecutors will decide within the next week what his punishment will be, with

police having filmed the incident to use as evidence against the driver

    .

Supt Hagen said he expected the man to face a fine of “several thousand Norwegian crowns” and a lengthy driving ban.
