    Wife’s $1m loss - her virginity

    April 6, 2008

A Malaysian woman is suing her husband for

    $A1 million

over the loss of her virginity.

The 30-year-old teacher is claiming 3.0 million ringgit ($A1.03 million) in damages for false promises over their marriage, which collapsed after her in-laws disapproved, The New Straits Times said.

It said the pair consummated their relationship after dating for a few months, then legally registered their marriage, but they never went through the customary Chinese marriage rites.

“What she has is a marriage on paper only. It’s not the kind we all know and the kind all women want. It’s a marriage obtained by misrepresentation,” her lawyer, Ernest Chua, told the daily.

The in-laws began pressuring their son to divorce, according to the bride, who named them in the suit for “inducing their son to breach the contract of marriage” and for causing her “humiliation and mental torture”.

The woman has also asked the court to declare the marriage null and void.

Used condom led to rape conviction

    Christine Kellett | April 8, 2008 - 1:56PM

A Brisbane prostitute raped by a teenager posing as a client helped catch her attacker by stowing his used condom in the fridge.

The 49-year-old woman, who cannot be identified, had been operating as a licenced sex worker from her Carina townhouse for about five years and advertised in the local paper until Damien Paul Kennedy, then 18, knocked on her door about 1pm on March 8 last year seeking oral sex.

Brisbane’s District Court today heard Kennedy was invited in and agreed to pay $90 for 30 minutes but became agitated after the woman asked him to take a shower and pay the cash up front.

After going to his car for more money and voicing concerns that police were watching him, the worried prostitute asked him to leave.

But as he was being shown the door, prosecutor Dzenita Balic said Kennedy turned violent, thumping the woman repeatedly in the face and head and grabbing her around the throat.

She was knocked to the floor and a struggle ensued until Kennedy produced a pair of medical scissors.

Ms Balic said the terrified woman, whose blonde wig had been torn from her head in the assault, tried to strike a bargain with Kennedy in an effort to calm him down.

“It was at this point that she decided to stop struggling when she realised the predicament she was in,” Ms Balic siad.

“She told him that it was okay, that he didn’t have to hurt her and asked him what he wanted.”

The court heard Kennedy forced her into an upstairs bedroom for sex before leaving.

However, she managed to salvage the condom he had used at her insistence, which she placed in her fridge until police arrived.

It was later used in a DNA match with Kennedy.

Prosecutors are seeking nine years’ jail for the now 19-year-old, who pleaded guilty this afternoon to one count each of assault with intent to commit rape and rape.

He also pleaded guilty to an unrelated offence of stealing a pushbike from a Brisbane busway which he later pawned for cash.

Kennedy’s defence barrister, Paul Brown, suggested his client, a drug user, may have been in the grip of a drug-induced psychosis at the time of the attack.

The sentencing hearing has been adjourned while the defence gathers medical evidence to support Kennedy’s claim.

    Professor stole students’ underpants

    From correspondents in Singapore

    April 08, 2008 04:30pm

A CHINESE university professor who stole the bras and panties of three Singapore university students has been placed on probation for one year.

Lee Wing Foon, 39, was also ordered to attend a special treatment programme for people with sexual disorders, The Straits Times reported.

It said he had admitted in February to stealing the underwear which had been left on railings outside the students’ hostel rooms at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University.

He was caught in December with a black bag containing two bras and a pair of panties, the report said.

Professor Lee’s lawyer was quoted as saying his client had been sexually aroused by undergarments since the age of about 14.

Court officials could not be reached to comment on the report, which identified Prof Lee as an associate professor at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in Beijing.

    Widow freezes dead husband’s sperm

    April 8, 2008 - 9:48AM

ATLANTA - A soldier’s widow has succeeded in having sperm taken from his body and frozen four days after he was slain in Iraq, though medical experts said it’s highly unlikely she would be able to bear his child.

Sergeant Dayne Darren Dhanoolal, 26, died March 31 when an explosive detonated near his vehicle in Baghdad. He had talked often with his wife Kynesha about having children, according to court papers filed by her lawyer.

On Friday, a federal judge in Columbus, Georgia, granted her request for a temporary restraining order preventing the military from embalming the body until after samples of Dhanoolal’s sperm were extracted. The samples were taken later that day and are in the custody of a medical representative for the widow, who is hoping to be inseminated even though fertility experts said the procedure almost certainly would not work with her late husband’s sperm.

“It’s not viable,” Dr Andrew McCullough, associate professor at the New York University School of Medicine, said.

Sperm maintain nearly normal movement and some function for the first three hours after a man’s death. After that, their movement and viability declines, according to the website for the department of urology at Cornell University’s Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College.

Dr John Park, a fertility expert and assistant professor at Emory University School of Medicine, said there have been reports of viable sperm being retrieved up to 36 hours after a man’s death. But he said it is “highly unlikely” any viable sperm could be retrieved four days later.

Recovery of viable sperm appears relatively uncommon after 24 hours post-mortem unless the body has been cooled, the Cornell site says. It was not known what, if any, precautions were taken to keep Dhanoolal’s body sufficiently cool before his sperm were extracted.

Despite the odds, Kynesha Dhanoolal persuaded the judge to allow the sperm to be collected. Dhanoolal did not have a will but had signed a military form designating his mother, Monica Brown, to handle disposition of his remains.

His widow asserted in court papers that Brown initially did not agree with her wishes.

However, “There’s no battle anymore,” Kynesha Dhanoolal said after speaking with her mother-in-law over the weekend.

Dhanoolal’s body was to be flown Monday from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to Texas, where a funeral is planned this Friday, according to the widow’s family.

The widow’s mother, Yvonne Watkins, said her daughter hopes to have her husband’s sperm artificially inseminated as early as this northern summer.

“We’re trying to honour my daughter and Darren’s wishes,” Watkins said.

“All of his comrades and anyone who knew them knew he wanted children.”

    Sister-in-law lured and raped

    By M. MAGESWARI

KUALA LUMPUR: An odd-job worker lured his sister-in-law with the promise of finding a job for her, but instead raped her when she went to see him.

The 55-year-old man had earlier told his wife that he could get a clerical job for her sister and would meet them in a container in Kg Sg Tekala in Kajang.

When his wife left the container to pick up the couple’s children, the man raped the 20-year-old victim in the container at 9pm on Oct 17, 2003.

Two days later, he took the victim to an orchard in Kg Tuntong and raped her again in a hut. He raped her in the same hut again seven days later. The man’s wife apparently witnessed the rape on both occasions.

In one of the incidents, the man burnt his victim’s clothes before raping her.

The victim had testified in the court that she had been beaten up violently, kicked, tied up and threatened that she would be doused with petrol and set ablaze.

Yesterday, Ampang Sessions Court judge Noradidah Ahmad set April 29 for sentencing after being informed by Deputy Public Prosecutor Roszianayati Ahmad that a fingerprints report for the odd-job worker was not ready.

DPP Roszianayati said the man had a previous conviction and that the officer-in-charge would need two weeks to compile his criminal record.

The judge had on March 19 convicted the odd-job worker of three counts of rape. A total of 14 prosecution witnesses testified.

Model lodges report over sex harassment

A 21-YEAR-OLD model has lodged a police report against the singer of a local band who allegedly harassed her sexually

by sending her half-naked pictures of himself when he stayed at her family’s house in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan, reported Harian Metro.

Kelantan CID head Asst Comm Mazlan Lazim confirmed that the model named

    Wawa

, accompanied by her 44-year-old father, met him for advice before lodging the report at the Kota Baru police headquarters on April 3.

    Wawa said

the singer, who is also an actor and model

, was allowed to stay at her family’s house for 11 days because they worked for the same modelling agency, and he claimed he did not have relatives in Kelantan.

    “Throughout his stay,

he harassed me by sending his half-naked pictures taken in front of a mirror via MMS

. He also sent an SMS asking me to go to the room he was staying in.

“He also hugged me and committed offensive acts towards me,” she told the newspaper on Monday.

“I fear he will take advantage of other girls. He is good at acting pious by talking about religion, and people were deceived by his personality, including my parents,” she said, adding that he had also claimed his parents passed away when he was a child.

“My family pitied him, that was why they allowed him to stay over at our house for 11 days without suspecting anything until he returned to Kuala Lumpur.” she added.

Girl trying to free herself from man was not raped

PETALING JAYA: The 10-year-old girl, who was seen struggling to free herself from a man attempting to rape her at a low-cost flat, was not raped.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohd said police received the medical report confirming that the girl was not raped in the incident that occurred in Kota Damansara.

“However, we will remand the suspect, a 48-year-old man, for two days to facilitate police investigations,” he added.

It is learnt that the man is expected to be charged with attempted rape and molest.

On Monday, residents of a low-cost flat at Section 8 caught and beat up the man initially suspected to have forced himself on the Year Four pupil who was found nude by a neighbour.

The 40-year-old woman quickly alerted the girl’s family members on the 17th floor after seeing the girl nude and struggling to free herself from the man in a lift on the ninth floor.

They and some neighbours went to the ninth floor where they found the girl crying. The girl had told them that a man had grabbed her from the lift and then took her to a vacant unit on the same floor.

They then handed the man over to police.

    Clean life, cleaner sperm

    March 9, 2008

MEN who smoke, drink heavily, use drugs or are exposed to pesticides could be endangering the health of their future children and grandchildren, scientists say. Toxic chemicals in cigarettes, alcohol and cocaine are thought to cause changes in DNA, which are passed down via the sperm for at least four generations.

While the mother’s health is known to have a direct impact on the wellbeing of her baby, researchers say animal studies show paternal exposure to toxins can also adversely effect the development of a foetus.

Dr Gladys Friedler, of the Boston University School of Medicine, said a review of studies indicate male exposure to a variety of potential toxins including both legal and illicit drugs can be linked to low birth weight, increase in childhood cancer, and developmental, behavioural and endocrine abnormalities.
