CHICAGO — Nude pictures of women have been the centerpiece of Playboy magazine for 62 years, but starting March of next year, the magazine will ditch the fully nude pics. It will still feature women in a provocative poses but Playboy says they’ll be more of a PG-13 flavor.
Playboy is accepting defeat at the hands of online porn websites in the battle for your eyeballs. Nudity is no longer a novelty. “You’re now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free,” Playboy CEO Scott Flanders told the New York Times.
It’s sad to think that younger generations will never experience the thrill of finding their dad’s secret wank stash. It was a rite of passage, for some a moment of brotherly bonding illuminated merely by flashlight. And gone are the days of black-bar plastic-wrapped magazines tempting teenagers to shoplift.

ZHEJIANG, CHINA — China’s decade-long one-child policy and the culture’s preference for sons has resulted in a gender imbalance that has China worrying about a growing number of single men.
According to the New York Times, 117 boys are born for every 100 girls in China, and by 2020, there will be 30 to 40 million Chinese bachelors — but not nearly enough women to pair them with.
Xie Zuoshi, an Economics professor at Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, has come up with an plan to solve this growing bachelor problem: wife-sharing. Professor Xie suggests addressing the problem from a purely economic standpoint, that of supply-and-demand. Because there are not enough women to go around, their value will likely increase. This isn’t a problem for rich men who can afford the high prices, but low-income bachelors are priced out. To solve this quandary, Xie suggests poor bachelors can share the same woman instead, adding that this practice has been known to exist in some remote and poor areas, where brothers can share the same wife and still live happily, reports the BBC.
Apart from wife-sharing, the professor also suggested that monogamy be banned, and same-sex marriage and wife-sharing be legalized to resolve the issue of far too many men.
Chinese netizens were none too happy with Xie’s solution, calling his ideas ridiculous and immoral. But Xie hit back at his haters, saying, “if we don’t let 30 million bachelors have women, their lives would have no hope and then they may go around, raping, killing, setting off bombs …”

BALTIMORE — Surgeons at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine are hoping to within a year perform the first penis transplant in the United States on a young soldier injured by a bomb explosion in Afghanistan, the New York Times reported.
The surgery is experimental, and doctors at Johns Hopkins have been given permission to perform 60 transplants.
According to U.S. Department of Defense Trauma Registry figures cited by the New York Times, as many as 1,367 soldiers suffered wounds to the genitals in Iraq and Afghanistan after being injured by IEDs between 2001 and 2013. Some lost all or part of their penises and/or testicles.
In the first penis transplant in the U.S., a the penis of a recently deceased donor will be removed and carefully dissected to keep its blood vessels, nerves and connecting structures intact.
Then surgeons will then connect the nerves, veins and arteries of the donor’s penis to the recipient’s correlating tissue and stitch them together under a microscope.
The recipient’s nerves will grow into the transplant at a rate of about one inch per month, which means it could take several months for the patient to recover sexual function.
If however the transplant fails, the donor’s penis will be removed, leaving the recipient in the same condition as before the surgery.
Among the risks are bleeding and infection. The patient will also have to take anti-rejection medicines for all his life, which could increase his chances of developing cancer.
Only two other penis transplants have been performed: a failed one in China in 2006 and a successful one in South Africa in 2014.
The estimated cost of the procedure is $200,000 to $400,000 per operation.

NEW TAIPEI CITY, TAIWAN - In Taiwan, a snubbed 57 year old man identified by his last name Jiang is suing his former fiancee and her mother for slander.
Mr. Jiang and his former fiancee, a 37 year old woman identified by her last name Xu, met through a matchmaker. After dating for several months the two decided to get in engage, but prior to the wedding Mr. Jiang and Ms. Xu decided to spend the night together at a hotel.
Much to Ms. Xu’s dismay Mr. Jiang was unable to perform. Mr. Jiang insists it was just a case of nerves.
Mr. Jiang’s fiancee and her family insisted he go see a doctor but he refused, so his fiancee broke off the engagement.
Mr. Jiang then demanded Ms. Xu return all the money and gifts he’d given her during the course of their relationship, when she refused, he sued her. However, a judge ruled that as the gifts were given willingly, she had no legal requirement to return them.
Now, Mr. Jiang is suing Ms. Xu and her mother for slander. He alleges that the two women have been gossiping about his failure to perform and because of their slanderous tongues he’ll never be able to get married.
Hmm. Wonder if the slander case will stand up in court?

After much lobbying from activists, it appears as if India is finally moving towards criminalising marital rape. The minister of state for home affairs indicated in the upper house of Parliament recently that the government will be proposing amendments to the Indian Penal Code to criminalise marital rape. If that amendment really comes to pass, “she’s my wife” will no longer be a legal defence for rape in India.
It’s a positive sign from India, but what about in Singapore? Marital rape is still not considered a crime here, as long as the wife in question is not under the age of 13. So technically a man could rape his wife – who could be as young as 13 – and still not be prosecuted for rape.
The only situations in which marital rape is criminalised in Singapore is if there are already divorce proceedings under way, if the court has already issued an injunction prohibiting the man from having sex with his wife, or if the wife already has a protection order against her husband.
The logic behind not criminalising marital rape is essentially patriarchal and outmoded. It assumes that a woman, upon marriage, automatically gives consent to any and every sexual encounter her husband chooses to have with her. Once she signs that marriage certificate, she is deemed to have handed over agency over her own body.
Such a reasoning should have no place in Singaporean society today. Women do not simply sign away their right to their own bodies upon marriage. No man, not even her husband, should have the right to her body if consent is not given.
The refuse to criminalise marital rape also has its consequences outside of the courts. It signals to society that rape within the marital home is not a crime that we all need to stand against, but simply a “domestic issue” that the couple need to work out in private. Worse, the refusal to acknowledge women’s agency over their bodies perpetuates the mindset that wives should submit to their husbands. Such pervasive mindsets in society leave women who have faced sexual assault by their husbands isolated and vulnerable, and makes it more difficult for them to seek help or report the abuse they have suffered.
Marital rape is already recognised and criminalised in many countries. There is no good reason why Singapore should not do the same.
