Rape trial in Singapore

    Chapter #1

Even by his account, it sounds like rape. What kind of asshole would say ‘Let’s have sex first and you can go home.’

Even if the woman wasn’t physically forced, it’s definitely coercion. Who wants to have sex with a crying woman?? Imagine if this was your sister or daughter.

    RAPE TRIAL

Woman tried to seduce me, says accused

In police statements, he says they had consensual sex at his flat

    By Elena Chong, Courts Correspondent

A MAN accused of raping a woman he met while clubbing at Zouk claimed the alleged victim tried to seduce him on the dance floor.

Ong Mingwee said the then 22-year-old woman agreed to go back to his place, where they had consensual sex.

His account of what happened was revealed in police statements heard in court yesterday, the third day of his trial.

Station Inspector Azman Mohd Hussin of the Serious Sexual Crime Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department read aloud two statements he took from Ong.

The 28-year-old was arrested on Feb 12, 2009, the day of the alleged rape, in a flat above a provision shop he runs in Toa Payoh North.

He stated that he was at Zouk with his brother when he met the alleged victim and her friend. The woman was drunk by then but continued drinking with him.

She pulled him to the dance floor, he claimed, adding that she was dancing as though she was trying to seduce him, which made him feel embarrassed.

When the club closed, he left with her in a cab and they kissed, he said, adding that she agreed to go home with him.

When they reached his flat, however, the woman started to cry and said she was scared and wanted to go home.

‘I was like, freak out, because all the while she was okay with me. I then tried to calm her down and told her not to worry as I would not harm her or hurt her,’ he stated.

Ong said he managed to calm her down and they started to kiss again.

He said he tried to have sex with her but was unable to because he had drunk too much. She broke down again, and said she wanted to make a phone call and go home.

Ong said he heard her crying non-stop as she talked to her friend and later her mother, which irritated and angered him.

‘Turned off’ by the woman’s long conversation with her mother, he said he took the phone and spoke to the mother in the kitchen, assuring her that he would take her daughter home safely.

When he returned to the room, he asked the woman if he could have sex with her. He claimed that she nodded her head.

After the act, he did not take her home as he was ’not in a mood’.

‘It was supposed to be a great night but because of her behaviour, it turned out to be (a) silly night. I don’t understand why she wants to report me to the police. I did try to call her after the incident but she did not reply.’

In a further statement, when asked by Station Insp Azman why he did not take the woman home as promised, Ong said: ‘Because I felt (like) shit after what had happened.’

He denied telling her that she must have sex with him if she wanted to leave.

‘I said something like, ‘Let’s have sex first and you can go home.’’

The alleged victim took the stand yesterday afternoon but her evidence was held behind closed doors following an application by Deputy Public Prosecutors Leong Wing Tuck and Victor Lim.

    Chapter #3

When there are 2 people saying 2 different stories, it gets complicating. But generally, judging based on the statement, I believe most people will sympathize with the lady as she is the victim. But think about it this way, which of us have never encountered a cranky lady before? Starting say ok and giving in to sex and threatening to cry rape or “mood swing” immediately after that?

I admit I have such an encounter before too and I did write a story on it previously. You can check it out

    here

. It was consensual sex but after the whole thing, the lady threatened to report to the police that I raped her. But she told me that I was lucky that she likes me else she would have reported me to the police. She left me

and she also made me run here and there like her slave, giving in to her demands. But finally I managed to shake her off and I believe there will be another man out there who will be her victim again.

Sometimes I wonder what these ladies are up to? If don’t want, I believe most guys will not force themselves onto them. But why give in, want to song song go jurong and report police after that? This is Singapore. The law sides with the female population. Poor men = us.

That’s why now, I always make clear to the ladies, “Sng buay ki, mai come out sng. (cannot play, then don’t start anything)”

Now I can only wish this guy best of luck. He’s in deep shit!

Honestly, I have a feeling he might be innocent and just plain bad luck. I’ve had girl friends who are like that…one minute they’re horny (and not even drunk) and trying to fuck and after they just plain regret, of course after their horniness is gone with their orgasms…

Don’t think we should chastitize this fella yet, during these cases sometimes the unfair advantage is given to the woman even though the guy is telling the truth.

All in all, I hope justice will be served, that is, if the judgement is correct.

You never know. like i said before in a thread. sometimes people are not as innocent as they are, they are no angel.

If the gal doesn’t put herself in that situation in the first place, nobody could have raped her.

Why did she follow the guy back home in the first place? stupidity. you are just asking/inviting for trouble. Even when u go clubbing, u are asking/inviting for trouble. Plain and simple.

For example, you can be badass and act tough and go out late at 3-4am at night for supper. You can be lucky for so long and experience no trouble, sooner or later odds are you will get beaten up or robbed as compared to the mornings/daytimes.

Another example, you can beat up a guy who messes with your girlfriend or sister. You can be lucky and get away with violence for so long. Meet a smart guy or a lawyer wannabe and you can sit your ass in jail for a long time and suffer WITH a criminal record that affects your whole life because you wanna act macho.

Let me rephrase what you have said. “sometimes people are not as innocent as they are, they are no angel” = Nobody are perfect.

Have you never gone clubbing before?

Have you never gone out late at 3-4am before?

What makes you think that by going clubbing or going out late at night is asking/inviting for trouble? Don’t expect youngsters to be staying at home everyday like you right?

Going out at night being beaten/robbed is just 1 of the factor. Few other factors which arises to being beaten/robbed that you have to consider:

    i) Your luck.

    ii) How you carry yourself.

    iii) How you dress.

iv) The friends you are with.

In all my life, I started working at Boat Quay at the age of 17, clubbing at the age of 18 and have been going out late at 3-4am since the age of 15. I do agree with you that by going to such places, the % of bringing you trouble is higher. But again, the factors I have mentioned above still apply. Never experienced being beaten up or robbed before during those outings, but there’s once when we got involved in a fight in the daytime

. And I am still living happily, an uncle now.

    Just my 3 cents worth

Lets face it and be honest.

A normal decent person sleeps at night and wakes up in the morning.

CLUBBING is NOT normal. It is a LIFESTYLE that SOME people use for fun.

Going out late at night is NOT normal. It is a LIFESTYLE that SOME people choose.

Youngsters don’t club and go out late at night, certainly NOT ALL. It’s only a minority out of the majority.

For all i know, maybe naturegreen you are an Ah Beng that’s why you have avoided trouble. For any normal educated smart person, living your LIFESTYLE will get one into trouble sooner or later.

I do go out at night. BUT the difference is, i try not to stay out too late at night or go back home too late. I try to be back during “early” night like 10-11 PM. Is that having NO LIFE? Does it mean u must hang out till after 12AM to have a life?

I am being HONEST! But you have not answered my questions yet. So are you saying those who sleep in the day and works at night are abnormal and indecent? And why do you think clubbing is not normal? Who says youngsters don’t club and go out at night. Of course certainly NOT ALL. Clubbing is for youngster-adults above the age of 18 for ladies, and 21 for guys (some clubs restricted to 23), definitely not for kiddos who are underage, who wants to go yet cannot go. But I can tell you for sure, those who have not gone before yearns to go badly but are hesitant due to again several factors:

    i) Underaged

ii) Not kakis to go with

    iii) Feeling insecured

iv) Unsure whether they will feel comfortable there

    To answer to your question:

“I try to be back during “early” night like 10-11 PM. Is that having NO LIFE? Does it mean u must hang out till after 12AM to have a life?”

I never say one has NO LIFE if they go back early. I never say one must hang out till after 12 AM to have a life!

So stop putting words into my mouth!

I am an educated ah beng who reasons out things rather than stereotype if you

    insist

    I am an ah beng.

Live with it. If you are a normal DECENT guy, you would not even be in here right from the start. Let me emphasize

    DECENT

if you missed out on the word cause it seemed you keep telling us how decent and normal you are. And by the way, those who clubs are definitely not what you say as “It’s only a minority out of the majority”. But you are definitely one of the minority out of the majority.

So stop being so holy and stop living in your own world.

    I don’t think you heard/read me right.

LIFESTYLE. < - This is the word.

Yes, if a person sleeps in the morning and wakes up at night. That is NOT normal.

A normal person is the opposite. No arguements about this. Even nature, the sun, the moon, the sky, the clouds, the light agrees with me.

Fwahhh Normal Decent People huh? let me ask u , Mr

    Normal Decent Person

, do you think when you wake up in the morning and go to anywhere to buy thing, who is the person that delivered, stacked, arranged the item u are buying??? But, since according to your thinking, only people who sleep at night and wake in the morning are

    NORMAL

    and

    DECENT

    ….

well we can only conclude that any one who works night shift and doesnt sleep at night is

    indecent and perverted

Hey, Mr Normal, try telling your boss u gotta be home by 11… oh and when u go home to your Normal bed remember not to look at the cleaner or security guard because they are

    ABNORMAL INDECENT PREVERTED FREAK

I must be dreaming about the huge ass long lines present outside Sparks and Other place way back when…. minority eh?
