I had to take another deep breathe. “Xiao Mei, we used to be so close that we don’t keep secrets from each other.” As I’m saying this, I felt a heat rush up my neck and face….knn, I’m keeping so many secrets from her now….

L seems to take a step back. I can see that there’s a war going on in her mind right now. Both her fists were clenched. She look at me, her lips quivering….it seems that she wanted to say something but no sound come out of her voice box.
I had to take a another deep breathe. I had to help her, give her a little nudge to get her talking….
“Tell me about Judy.”
“WHAT?!”, that statement totally caught her off guard.
L was trying to recover as fast as possible but I know that I’ve caught her flat-footed.
“Tell me about Judy, everything from the start. I do mean everything.” I repeat my question with a little bit more forceful this time as I want to exploit the moment of her shock/surprise.
L’s eyes were rolling, trying to find a way out….suddenly, her shoulder slumped, and I can see her eyes turning red. I know I’ve her now.
Tears started to form as she recounted the event on that fateful night. She had a big quarrel with M, and she just want to drink, dance and forget about all the unhappy things that had happened on that day.

As we reached the table, I pulled out the thumb drive and pressed it onto her hand. “All your worst nightmares are here. From this moment moment on, you are free. You don’t have to listen to Judy’s bidding anymore.”
“What? How?”, L stammered.
“Don’t ask me how. Just know that from this moment on, you are free again. Now, can I have the Xiao Mei I know back?”
L was speechless and too stunned to do anything.
“Everything are here. No copies made.” I told her.
Tears starts to form on L’s eyes. But this time, the tears are not tears of sadness. I can see the happiness and relief in those gleaming tears.
Once L has settled down, I grab her hands softly, “you are in no condition to drive home now. Stay and take a rest in the guest room. I’ll ask auntie to fix something light for lunch.”
She was in a zombie state. I led her to one of the guest room, tug her to bed. I kissed her on her forehead again, told her to have a good rest. I’ve some work to finished up and I’ll come to wake her up for lunch later.
As I exit the room, I saw the thumb drive grab tightly in her left fist. Thank you but I’ve to admit that I was not such a gentleman that day. The battle was there and for a moment, I could have made a mistakes and give in to desire. I’ve mentioned before that I had admired L since school days, even did hint to her to go steady. She never agree. I went into the guest room to see if L is up for lunch.
She is still sleeping soundly. I stand back to admire her. I can see a smile on her face although the thumb drive is grab tightly in her fist. It’s a beautiful sight to withhold and the image is still on my mind today. God knows how long she can’t find such a good rest. From her relax posture and smiling face, i know her mind is at rest now.
