SINGAPORE: 38 new cases of locally transmitted Zika virus infection were confirmed on Friday (Sep 2), bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 189.
In a joint statement, the Ministry of Health (MOH) and National Environment Agency (NEA) said that of the 38 new cases, 34 are linked to the Aljunied Crescent/Sims Drive/Kallang Way/Paya Lebar Way cluster.
They added that four new cases have no known links to any existing cluster, but did not specify where these cases were located.
The agencies added that vector control remains key to reducing the spread of the Zika virus.
NEA said it is continuing with vector control operations to control the Aedes mosquito population in Aljunied Crescent, Sims Drive, Kallang Way and Paya Lebar Way.

FUCK YOU UNDERSTAND CCB!!!!
We learned from Jurassic park mosquitoes been around millions of years! Probably less millions in years than the piece of shits’ million dollars.
How to eradicate? Teach the worlds scientist La! where malaria is still the biggest killer in the world!
Mosquitoes n cockcroaches been around for millions of years so the son should feel some affinity to mosquitoes.
Long after garbagement n the son is gone n forgotten, including spore like Atlantis, mosquitos will still b around
Dengue they can’t solve . And they spend time fixing the opposition wards . I can bet you they also can’t solve Zika . They should have killed all the mosquitos in the first place.

SINGAPORE- Two-thirds of mosquito breeding sites are found in homes while the rest are in common areas and construction sites, said Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli on Saturday morning (Sept 3).
“It’s not because our home owners don’t know the danger of breeding at home. Sometimes, some of them don’t realise that by not turning over water regularly in their vase, it will breed mosquitoes,” he said.
“These mosquitoes have also adapted very well to our environment. They know where to find water as much as we hide it.”
He was speaking to reporters at the Tampines West Community Centre after handing out pamphlets on the Zika virus to residents nearby as part of a two-week island wide outreach effort.
Source eradication is an important means to fight Zika and dengue, he said, urging everyone to do their part by eliminating breeding sites.

SINGAPORE: Resources for vector control operations to prevent Zika have to be carefully allocated to ensure they are effectively utilised, Environment and Water Resources Minister Masagos Zulkifli said on Saturday (Sep 3).
Speaking to media after making the rounds in his constituency, Tampines, Mr Masagos said while many were aware of the problem they might not necessarily know their own homes could have become breeding sites.
He added that it was important to eradicate mosquitoes, as female Aedes mosquitos are responsible for the spread of not only the dengue virus, but also Zika and chikungunya.
However, when asked if vector control operations would be stepped up islandwide, Mr Masagos said: “We don’t want to create panic, we want to make sure it’s an effective operation.”
The National Environment Agency (NEA) will follow the Health Ministry’s advice on where to focus vector control operations, he added.
Inspections and fogging have been intensified in affected areas over the past week, with the NEA destroying 55 mosquito breeding habitats – 30 in homes and 25 in common areas or other premises – in the Aljunied Crescent, Sims Drive, Kallang Way and Paya Lebar Way cluster and 19 breeding habitats – 12 in homes and seven in common areas or other premises – in the Bedok North Avenue 3 cluster by Thursday.

Life goes on normally, but attack mosquitoes and their breeding grounds: DPM Teo Chee Hean

SINGAPORE - The best response to the Zika virus is to eradicate the mosquitoes and their breeding grounds, said Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean during a walkabout in Pasir Ris to raise awareness about the mosquito-borne disease.
While this requires a concerted effort, people in Singapore should try to live life as normally as possible, said Mr Teo on Saturday (Sept 3).
“The most important thing is to deal with Zika in an appropriate manner…which is good collection of information, dissemination of information, and attacking the problem, which is to attack the mosquitoes and their breeding grounds,” he said.
He added that the approach is similar to preventing dengue, except that for pregnant women, they should take particular precautions.
While most who are infected with the Zika virus have mild symptoms, it has been linked to microcephaly and brain damage in babies whose mothers contract the disease during pregnancy.
Control operations such as fogging and oiling drains have been ongoing in Zika hot spots Aljunied Crescent, Sims Drive, Paya Lebar Way and Kallang Way.
Inspection and control measures have also been taking place in Bedok North Avenue 3 and other areas where cases were reported.

Zika virus in Singapore likely evolved from Asian strain, not from South America: Health Ministry
Published 1 hour ago

SINGAPORE - Sequencing analysis of the Zika virus found in two of the patients from the Aljunied Crescent, Sims Drive cluster has indicated that the virus likely evolved from a strain that was already circulating in South-east Asia.
The virus from these two patients was not imported from South America.
The sequencing was completed by the National Public Health Laboratory and A*STAR’s Bioinformatics Institute.
“The analysis found that the virus belongs to the Asian lineage and likely evolved from the strain that was already circulating in Southeast Asia,” the Health Ministry said.
The research team will release more details shortly, it added.
