Rachel came, and she did not talk much. After passing some letters for me to read she leaned on the railing along the road beside the MRT station.
These were letters from Christina to her, I hesitated but she urged me to read them. I took a look at the first letter and it wrote something like this:
Rachel,
I hope all is well and I believe Sonia will be fine under your care, I am not in the best moods, as Lawrence had misunderstood me. He believes that I had asked you to Question him, but I too want to know why you did it? ( this part make me read on as something does not seem right) I hope you can tell me, as Lawrence has avoided me. I am lost, I did not know what happened but now it seems to be all my fault.
Christina
The rest of the letter all seem similar the only difference was the amount of depressing words used. And non of them actually states anything about our relationship.
I handed the letters back to Rachel and she looked at me.
Rachel: I think you really misunderstood Christina, she never asked me to question you.
Me: Then why did you do so?
At that moment it was getting more confusing, If Christina said nothing to Rachel, how did she know? And what was this actually about?
Rachel: I Think it will be easier for you to believe it if you contact Sonia on your own.
I gave Rachel a puzzled look and I did not understand now what does Sonia have to do with this.
Rachel: It was Sonia that told me about Christina and You. I think you will understand why I asked you to leave Felicia after talking to Sonia.
In my mind this is going crazy, Sonia told Rachel, now how Sonia knew? and what does it have to do with Felicia? I was getting confused and Rachel told me that was all she wanted to say before walking off. I was happy with what I had, But this meetup with Rachel stirred everything up again.
I took the train home and I was deciding if I should page Sonia. The thoughts I had then was “Was it better for me to know more, or should I let things go and be contented with what I have now”

The thoughts of paging Sonia did not leave me, I just could not brush it off. I took up the phone and I paged Sonia, it was a long while since I contacted her, she called back soon and I picked up
Me: Sonia?
Sonia’s: Virgin ah..
Me: Rachel ask me to call you.
Sonia: why must ask me?……..
Me: Sonia, I just want to know.
Sonia: Virgin, can don’t let Felicia know? She will hate me one.

Sonia: Got one time I was with Rachel Jie, then we talk about Bfs and Gfs lor, then I slipped my tongue, telling her Felicia is with you even when she knows you are with Christina, she did not mind. Rachel Jie got very angry and she wanted to call Felicia, but I begged her not to.
Me: Then?
Sonia: Then her birthday coming so she say she want to take this chance to talk to you and make you leave Felicia, that is why I ask Felicia to ask you to come.
Me: Then that day, I remember Felicia stopped you from saying things.
Sonia: Yah lor, I want to say Felicia ask me not to page you.
Me: why?
Sonia: Felicia also tell me about Jasmine and Ann, She say they will be angry if I keep paging you.
I get the picture, I have wronged Christina. I placed down the phone with Sonia, promising her that I would not let Felicia know any of this.
I took out all of Christina’s letters, Tears flow slowly as I read through them in sequence. Her letters started with from self explanatory to pleads for my reply, after 2 months, I believed she has lost all hope. In her last letter she worte me, she wished me well and hoped I will be happy. Signing off with “never to bother you again, Christina”.
It was over, and I was sure Christina went through more pain than I did. I was late in realizing the truth and my assumptions lead to her suffering.
I cried and nodded to myself “I was A Fool”
i kept the letters back into my drawer, and I did not stop crying. I could only console myself that it might be better this way as it was what I wanted. I took Christina’s photo out of my wallet, looking at it for a long time before finally placing it with the letters.
That night, was a rough night for me. I laid in my bed and I couldn’t sleep. I thought about how Christina must have suffered and reprimanded myself, I could only come to one conclusion: I did not deserve her.

The next day, I woke up early. I seem to have accepted the fact that nothing can be done now especially with Christina in US. Even if I were to write her something, It would take 2 weeks to reach her.
I went back to my daily routine, and for the past few weeks I have not seen Evon. I guess she must have changed her timing, and soon the bus arrived and I boarded it heading for school.
I reached school and all was fine, I spoke with Kai before going for recess and Gloria came pulling me away.
Me: Eh, Gloria I was talking to Ah Kai halfway.
Gloria: why are you talking to him?
Gloria pulled me and I shook her hand off telling her I could walk myself, and we met up with WeiQi whom was looking at Ah Kai’s direction. I did empathize with WeiQi, I could somehow relate to how she was feeling due to my loss of Christina.
Gloria pulled her away and I really mean pull as in physically, that was how we arrived at the canteen.
Gloria: Yang, I want you to quit being his friend.
Me: huh?
Gloria: Yang… He can treat WeiQi like this. She gave him everything you know?
Me: This one their thing what?
Gloria: Up to you, If you want to be his friend then don’t come and find me.
I did not know what to say, I was stuck between Gloria and Ah Kai. I could only look on as Gloria pulled WeiQi and walked away, think to myself: What the fuck.
I went to find Ah Kai at the foyer and told him what happened, as usual we went for a smoke break.
Kai: Eh Yang, Pai seh leh, make Gloria and you fight.
Me: Aiyah, she like that talk, I also sian.
Kai: Ya lor, me and WeiQi thing also got her problem meh?
Me: Let her do what she want lah, Wah Lao she think she say I must follow.
Kai: steady Leh, Yang. But hor you up her already?
I had some fun with Gloria but never penetrated her so I guess no.
Me: No lah!!!
Kai: Wah you got so decent bo? Abit waste hor you never eat then break.
We ended our talk and returned to class, and I paged the girls, seriously I could not be bothered with Gloria’s action. To me I was partly upset that she had forgotten that Ah Kai helped her with Glenn, and I feel that she was using our relationship to threaten me.
As I took the Bus to Bishan, my pager beeped it was a voicemail and I listened to it upon reaching the station.
Gloria’s voicemail: Where are you, I think we need to have a good talk.
I send Gloria a voicemail that I had went home, before meeting the girls. She was pushy and I did not like it.
Meeting the girls at the station made me feel better, there were no pressure from them to me. (somethings they also pressure me la, I admin u was bias)
But as Felicia cling onto me my pager beeped again, I took a look and it was another voicemail. There was no need to guess whom it was from and I just brush it off.
We went to the food court to pack lunch and my page kept beeping, I switched it to silent mode as Felicia looked at me.
Felicia: Idiot, who page you until like that.
Me: Nothing lah, School friend want to borrow thing from me.
Felicia: page until like that, must be want to borrow money, Chao Ah Beng huh? ( referring to Ah Kai)
Me:No lah, I where got some much money borrow people.
Felicia believed what I said, and we went on packing our lunch before we headed for my home. As Usual we had our lunch in the living room, as I was about to start eating, my home phone rang.
The Girls were too surprised as it has never once rang with their presence, I drag myself to pickup the phone as the girls looked at me they too were curious about who was calling me.
There was no need for guesses, I knew it was definitely Gloria and I need to be careful talking to her not to raise any suspicion from the girls.
Gloria: Why you never return my page?
I look at the girls trying to end the conversation fast: Hello… I just got home leh.
Gloria: Do you really want to break up? (She the one that say breakup now ask me do I really want it?)
Me: That one is you say not I say one hor, anyway I having lunch now Can we talk at school tomorrow.
Gloria: No, You don’t think you can be like Ah Kai just throw me aside like that, I am not weak like WeiQi.
The girls were looking at me and Felicia starts tilting her head upwards asking what’s the matter.
I shook my head to the girls telling them it was nothing: Eh can I have lunch first or not.
Gloria: lunch more important or I am more important?
Felicia stood up and Jasmine followed I could see them inching near me, this left me with no choice I had to end this fast, If Felicia hears Gloria voice I will have more trouble.
Me: I ask one last time, can I have my lunch?
Gloria did not answer, and I out down the phone.
Felicia: Idiot, what’s the matter?
Me: No lah, they need me to help with things then cannot wait.
Jasmine: Eh? Got people need help from you?
Me: Cannot meh?
Felicia: idiot don’t angry… Come have lunch.
Jasmine shook her head and Felicia pulled me to join them for lunch, but Ann looked at me for a long time and never said anything.
It did not take long for my phone to ring again, don’t ask me why I did not pull the plug off I could not as the girls were in the living room with me. I was trying to do that with my toes and Felicia came pulling me.
Frustrated I stood up going to pick up the call, and Felicia told me she want to handle for me and of course I rejected her offer telling her I will settle.
I pressed on the talk button and put up a impressive show that I needed to in front of the girls shouting at the top of my voice: Eh enough already hor! Got limit one you know! (I was up to my limits with Gloria, and I did not care if she want to break up with me ).
Gloria starts crying on the other side of the phone.
Gloria: Yang……
Me: Please hor, whatever you don’t like about Ah Kai is non of my business. He is my brother, but what he do I cannot control, I cannot ask him to be with someone just because he is my brother.
I hang up the phone.
And girls gave me a puzzled look, before Jasmine starts talking.
Jasmine: So this need that your friend needs involves your “brother”
I gave a big sigh before sitting down with the girls, I gave them a cock and bull story that Gloria is actually a girl that like Ah Kai, and asked me to help her after Ah Kai rejected her as Ah Kai told her he already had a GF. But I cannot force Ah Kai right, and she keep pestering me to help her.
Jasmine laughed: Wow… That hooligan can be popular too.
Felicia: Idiot, this thing I think you better don’t be involved lor.
I nodded and I saw Ann in deep thoughts.
Me: Later I tell Ah Kai to handle her himself lah.
We had our lunch, and as I was clearing the rubbish Ann spoke: Lawrence, get it settled soon ok.
I looked at Ann and somehow I think she knew I was lying.
