the next morning after my morning routine, I was on the way to school. I met Evon at the bus stop, and there was this air of awkwardness.
Evon: Hi.
Me: Hi.
Evon: Are you feeling better? (I think she was trying to tell me, I really believed in you)
Me: yah.
There seem like nothing much for us to talk about, and her bus came. She smiled and tinkled her fingers telling me good bye, I smiled and I did not look at her as she board the bus.
The first half of school was normal, nothing much and Ah Kai and me did not talk at all. But during recess, as I was walking down the foyer. Ah Kai’s underlings sat on the benches, the underlings stared at me. And the one that punched pointed at me and was boasting about his punch yesterday.
Underling 1: Wah jip liap, yi tio Ai toh liaoz. ( one punch from me and he was already falling to ground) keh ji liap confirm pi tor kah. (One more sure he fall flat on the ground.
The rest of the underlings laughed and I was pissed, walking up to them I felt I needed an output to vent my anger.
Me: Jin saat hor, lai wa jio lu 1 on 1. ( very impressive right, I challenge u 1 on 1)
Underling 1: I scared ah, lai la (come on)
I walked on and we moved to the toilet beside the hall, Ah Keong was inside smoking and asked me what’s the matter. Ah Kai came in and asked if I was crazy, I smiled bitterly at him: I lost my siao eh (gf), buay song eh sai buay! (Not happy can or not)
Strength and emotion does have a link, it was rage that gave me strength that day.
Kai’s underling came charging at me, I aimed at his nose bridge and gave him a forceful punch. It connected well and he held his face, I moved up and pull on his hair. I trounced him as I repeated to him: Ho Wah pi tor kah? (Let me fall to the ground)
He was calling out to admit that he had lost but I did not stop, I dragged him to the urinal and I pulled him back, I almost flung his head towards the urinal, when someone grabbed me from behind. It was Keong, and the only words that came out of his mouth was: Yang, Gao Liao.
I let go of Kai’s underling and he ran out almost immediately, Ah Kai came to me and we stared at each other.
Ah Kai: Yang, Stephanie know Jasmine is not good, she just helping me look out for you. You see after yesterday she already tell me Pris also no good, eh she very good to you one.
Me: Kai, Jasmine good or no good I know myself, but at least I dun listen to char bor. and throw my brother away.
Ah Kai pointed at me and shook his finger as he walked out.
Ah Keong offered me a cigarette, and was shocked I had my own.
We smoked in the toilet as I told him my tale.
Keong gave me some pointers on how to handle the matter, I did not know why but his words gave me some confidence. I now know how to resolve, this but I needed to act fast.
I went back to my classroom and I tapped on Kai’s table indicating to him I needed to talk.
I walked out of the classroom waiting for him, but he never came out. making me go to his table again, and he looked at me.
Kai: Yang, Mai Siao lah, wah mai kah lu sho pak (Don’t crazy can? I don’t want to fight you)
Me: What fight? I only want to talk to you.
Kai: Talk ah, no fight ah?
Me: Hannah (yes)
Kai finally followed me out and we bumped into our teacher on the way, we told her we were going to the toilet. (anyway they also don’t really care)
We went into the toilet and I offered Kai a cigarette, I offer to light it for him but he declined and lighted it on his own.
Kai: Yang you ok bo?
Me: No.
Kai: Forget it lah, I ask Stephanie intro girl to you. (CB Stephanie again , I endure)
Me: Eh you and Stephanie had sex already? ( I was asking the obvious, I saw them in the act)
Kai with a cheeky smile: Everyday.
I laughed and patted Ah Kai on the back: Do more hor, If not you will regret.
Kai gave me a puzzled look and I smiled at him.
The rest of the day was uneventful and I paged the girls to meet at J8, and yes I page Jasmine too.
I went to J8 via bus and my pager beeped twice, I Listen to the voicemail and only Felicia was coming. Ann sounded strange, and I felt something was wrong.
I went up to the 4th level and look for Sheng the Neighbourhood Beng and we had a discussion, We ended our chat when Felicia came.
Now I needed to find Andy.
As Felicia joined me, lots was going on my mind. I knew there was no way for me to talk and gather information from Jasmine, and at the same time I was worried about Ann, she just did not sound right and I just hoped she had a small argument with Jasmine about coming to meet me.
I told Felicia about the pointers Keong gave me, and I needed to find Andy.
Felicia: Ask Pris lor.
That did come to my mind, and actually I wanted to page her yesterday. I did not know if it was good for me to keep in contact with her, especially after what happened yesterday.
Me: you ok with me calling Pris?
Felicia: who else can you call?
I guess Pris was my only solution, and Ihave to page her.
Me: Eh Felicia, just now Ann call me strange strange one leh.
Felicia: huh? Then page her lor, why you never ask her?
Me: I don’t know I think maybe she won’t tell me. Can you?
Felicia: ok lah, eat already go already.
Me: Go where?
Felicia: aiyo idiot go your place lah, if not go where page for Ann.
Me: Orh.
We never really finished our lunch and we left for my home, Felicia paged Ann a couple of times but she did not call back.
I had this feel, I did not know why but I start to think I may lose Ann too.

If waiting for something was a torture, waiting for someone to reply isn’t far off. It was stressful and I could not help, but kept asking Felicia to page again.
I could not wait anymore, I took my keys and a $100 from Joanne’s envelope before pulling Felicia towards the door.
Felicia: where we going?
Me: Jasmine and Ann’s home.
I know I might be over reacting, but I could not take chances. I felt something was wrong, and I just cannot allow anything to happen.
We went down, and it sucks when you urgently needed a cab, they never come.
We waited for 10 mins and finally got one, pleading the uncle to drive faster we reach Jasmine and Ann’s home in 15 mins.
I made payment and raced to the lift, I asked Felicia to stand at the door as I press the doorbell. As I knew Jasmine would not come to the door if she saw me, Jasmine opened the door and was shocked to see me. She tried to shut the door and Felicia shouted to her.
Felicia: Jasmine, is Ann at home?
Jasmine did not finish closing the door and we hear her soft voice: She had a argument with me, I don’t know where she is.
I banged on the door hard and pleaded for Jasmine to help us page her, she agreed to only let Felicia in as I stood outside the door.
Half an hour later they was still no news, I sat on the floor of the corridor. I was devastated. I called out in my mind, Ann where are you.
It was then someone tapped on my shoulder, it was Ann and I held her close.
Me: why you never return the pages?
Ann: Lawrence, sorry my pager rang out of battery, and I was upset.
Me: Don’t do this again.
I released Ann and she went in, I could hear Felicia screaming at her.
But 15mins later, Ann opened to door to look for me.
Ann: Lawrence, Felicia told me about you looking for Andy………
Ann told me she had Andy’s number, I told her in what I planned to do. And she decided she would want to help, I told her that I needed to think about her joining in. To me, she was not Felicia, and even Felicia failed last time round.
Ann the showed her pager to me, I really cannot stand her puppy eyes.
Ann: Lawrence, can help me change the battery?
Me: Ann you got buy battery?
Ann shook her head: I don’t what kind. (Techno bimbo alert)
I took sometime to figure how to open the battery cover.
Ann went back in to ask if Felicia wanted to join us to purchase the battery, but returned saying Felicia wanted to be with Jasmine.
I walk out to the main road with Ann, and she held my hand.
Ann: Lawrence, there is somethings I think I need to tell you.
Me: ok we will find a place to talk after we changed you battery.
We went to a nearby minimart and bought the battery, I change it for Ann immediately and explain to Ann how to do it. (It was a waste of time, she still did not get it)
We could not think of any place and we went back to their condo, we decided to talk in the stairs area as it was quite conducive.
Ann: Lawrence, I did not tell you everything about Jasmine and Andy.
Me: Why?
Ann: Jasmine did not want ppl to know.

Ann told me the whole thing, how Stephanie used to have a Bf called mark I think and how Stephanie “persuaded” Jasmine to be with Andy. Rather than saying Stephanie was scheming and had plotted against Jasmine all these time. I will say that Jasmine was stupid.
Me: So what happened, when Jasmine was together with Andy?
Ann: We will go out together, and end up in Andy’s home.

Me: why did they fall out actually.
Ann: Andy wanted me to sign one too and Jasmine refused.
Now things that Stephanie said made sense, and I cannot believe how stupid Jasmine was.
I had a change of plans and I needed to be sure I get all the items back, I briefed Ann on what to do and reminded her to bind tomorrow.
Ann chuckled: Lawrence, are you afraid?
