It occurred at around 9.30am, causing a delay between Outram Park and Eunos stations in the direction of Pasir Ris.
SMRT had first tweeted for commuters to expect an additional 10 minutes of travelling time between Outram Park and Eunos stations at 9.32am.
This was revised to 15 minutes of additional travel time at 9.42am, before it was back to 10 minutes of additional travel time at 10.13am.
SMRT also said it was working to recover service and that the track fault had occurred near Paya Lebar.

Bukit Panjang LRT may be scrapped: SMRT company blog

SINGAPORE - Rail operator SMRT Corp and regulator Land Transport Authority (LTA) are deciding what to do with the problematic Bukit Panjang LRT, including scrapping the system altogether.
In a company blog, SMRT Trains managing director Lee Ling Wee said a joint team is reviewing the future of the system with a view to giving it a major overhaul.
“It will be more than just a makeover,” Mr Lee wrote, adding that the 17-year-old system is near “the end of its design life”.
He said there are three options on the table.
A fussy LRT system in need of overhaul
One, to deploy self-powered autonomous guided vehicle on the existing viaduct.
Two, build a new LRT system with significant design enhancements in key infrastructures such as power supply, signalling, rolling stock, tracks and stations.
Three, to renew the existing Bombardier system with a more updated signalling system - allowing trains to be tracked more accurately, and to ply at a higher frequency.

Massive waste to take down BPLRT system: Experts
By Tan Weizhen

SINGAPORE — Doing away with the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (BPLRT) system would be a massive waste, transport experts said in response to a review of the rail network by the authorities, as they called for solutions that would use existing infrastructure instead.
They also pointed out that the S$285 million LRT network was doomed from the start for two main reasons.
One, unlike the LRT systems in the newer housing estates of Sengkang and Punggol, the network’s design was not integrated with the town’s plans.
Two, using a proprietary system such as the driverless Bombardier technology meant that options to upgrade the system were limited.
Looking at the options that rail operator SMRT proposed, Professor Lee Der Horng, a transport analyst, said that using autonomous, guided vehicles that run on the existing viaduct would be the most feasible one because it may not require a central control system, which would then reduce overheads.
Transport consultant Tham Chen Munn agreed, pointing out that this particular option would make use of existing infrastructure, with modifications to be made only where needed.
However, both had an issue with the BPLRT’s short life cycle, now that the light rail is nearing the end of its 20-year design lifespan.

Again lack of proper maintenance regime is the main issue .

Anyway even if Lrt decision is made NOW, garbagement makes the decision cos they’re the ones investing millions or billions in it. Desmond literally sit one corner la. He’s not even considered an expert in these trains
Who say not ? He did not improve the performance of the BPLRT when he could have done so . Now he is waiting for the LTA to complete the transfer of it assets and he wash his hands off .
SBS, SMRT make submissions to PTC for MRT fare review

SINGAPORE – Both train operators SMRT and SBS Transit have made submissions to the Public Transport Council (PTC) in the latest fare review exercise, which could see public transport fares slashed by as much as 5.7 per cent next year.
The exercise concluded on Friday evening (Oct 7). When asked if they had applied to raise or lower fares, both SMRT and SBS declined to comment.
A PTC spokesman confirmed that submissions were received from both companies, and added that PTC will “evaluate them carefully”. Asked for details, the spokesman said it is “premature to comment on the applications at this juncture”.
The PTC will announce its decision on the fare adjustment before the end of the year.
Bus operators weren’t required to apply to the PTC for the approval of fares as the public bus industry is transiting to the bus contracting model.
Based on the fare formula PTC uses — which is pegged to changes in the Core Consumer Price Index, the Wage Index and the Energy Index over the preceding year — PTC had said in September that “the maximum allowable fare adjustment is -5.7 per cent”.

Faulty platform screen door at Sixth Avenue Station caused by loose bolt: LTA, SBS Transit

SINGAPORE - A faulty platform screen door at Sixth Avenue Station along the Downtown Line (DTL) was caused by a bolt which had loosened over time, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SBS Transit (SBST) in a joint press release on Tuesday (Oct 18).
The bolt on the fastener which secures the affected platform screen door to the guide rail had loosened over time, causing the door to be misaligned and come into contact with the side of an approaching train.
The dislodged screen door disrupted train services for two hours on the morning of Oct 4.
The platform screen doors at Sixth Avenue station were last checked by SBST in August as part of its routine maintenance, and none were faulty, according to the press release.
Following the Oct 4 incident, however, all DTL platform screen doors, including bolts and securing mechanisms, were extensively inspected and found to be functioning normally.
Platform screen doors on the other rail lines were also inspected, and found to be secure and in good working condition.

East-West Line hit by second glitch in 3 days

Train journeys on the MRT’s East-West Line were delayed during the morning peak hour yesterday, in what was the second major incident to hit Singapore’s second-oldest line in three days.
Yesterday’s glitch was caused by a westbound train which stalled near Dover station. Operator SMRT tweeted about the delay at 7.01am, warning that travel time from Queenstown to Jurong East - five stations away - would take 20 minutes more than usual.
SMRT spokesman Patrick Nathan said the driver of a westbound train reported at around 6.45am that its brakes were stuck.
Mr Nathan said this happened “just before the train entered Dover MRT station”.
“A rescue train was subsequently coupled to the defective train to push it to Dover station for passengers to disembark,” he added.
SMRT said the delay was “confined to the stretch between Queenstown and Jurong East stations”.
Commuters, however, reported that the delay extended to more stations, and even to eastbound services.
Stockbroker Cole Cheong, 49, said he was late for work despite leaving his home earlier than usual yesterday.
Mr Cheong, who takes a train from Boon Lay to his workplace in Raffles Place, said: “I was about half an hour late. The train was slow, but it was slowest between Boon Lay and Jurong East stations.”
