Dubai: Muslim Father let daughter drown rather than have strange men touch her

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...-10448008.html

The death of his daughter was preferable to violating Sharia restrictions. He assumed that Allah, “the compassionate, the merciful,” would be happier with him if he let his daughter die rather than bring dishonor on his family. This is an assumption deeply ingrained by the intransigence and preoccupation with hellfire and judgment that permeate the Qur’an.

“Man let daughter drown rather than have strange men touch her, Dubai police claim,” by Caroline Mortimer, The Independent, August 10, 2015 (thanks to Pamela Geller):

The father of a 20-year-old woman who drowned in Dubai allegedly stopped lifeguards from helping her.

The unnamed man had said he preferred to let her die rather than be touched by strange men after she got into difficulty on a beach in the city, a senior Dubai official told Emirates 24/7.

Lt. Col Ahmed Burqibah, Deputy Director of Dubai Police’s Search and Rescue Department, said the incident had stuck with him.

He said: “The kids were swimming in the beach when suddenly, the 20-year-old girl started drowning and screaming for help.

“Two rescue men were at the beach, and they rushed to help the girl.

“However, there was one obstacle which prevented them from reaching the girl and helping her.

“This obstacle was the belief of this Asian man who considered that if these men touched his daughter, then this would dishonour her. It cost him the life of his daughter.”

According to Lt. Col Burqibah, the man became aggressive, physically pulling the rescue men away from the water and said he “prefers his daughter being dead than being touched by a strange man”.

Najib’s claim of RM2.6 billion to fight Isis full of holes, says DAP

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak should come clean about the RM2.6 billion donation made to his personal accounts following revelations that the money was given to Malaysia for fighting militant group Isis, DAP said today.

Its parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang added that this latest “spin” was so far the most “ludicrous and outrageous” explanation of the funds deposited into Najib’s accounts.

“It has been said that once you tell a lie, you need to tell ten more lies to cover the first lie,” Lim said in a statement today.

“But the latest spin that the RM2.6 billion deposited into Najib’s personal bank accounts originated from Saudi Arabia as an appreciation to Malaysia for championing Islam, fighting Isis and for practising Sunni Islam really takes the cake for being the most ludicrous and outrageous explanation so far.”

Najib’s claim was full of holes and could not hold up under scrutiny, Lim, the Gelang Patah MP said, adding that the prime minister had previously glorified the terror group in a speech at an Umno function.

“If it were true that the RM2.6 billion deposited into Najib’s personal bank account was allegedly in appreciation for Malaysia’s efforts in combating Isis, then Najib would not have sung the praises for Isis at the 20th anniversary dinner of the Cheras Umno Branch on June 24, 2014, calling on Umno members to emulate their bravery.

“The deposit of RM2.6 billion into Najib’s personal bank accounts occurred in March 2013, more than a year before Najib’s speech to Cheras Umno and the creation of the caliphate and the change of Isis to the Islamic State,” he added.

In a speech made one week before militant group Isis declared the creation of a caliphate and changed its name to the Islamic State, Najib had said Umno should follow their example of bravery if the Malay nationalist party wanted to survive.

“With this history and background, who will believe that RM2.6 billion was deposited into Najib’s personal bank accounts in March 2014 in appreciation of Malaysia’s combat against Isis?” Lim said today.

“Najib should come clean on the RM2.6 billion deposit into his private bank accounts and stop telling lies, like the latest one on its being donated from Saudi Arabia in appreciation of Malaysia’s combat against Isis, which has immediately been torn to piece with close scrutiny.”

Umno Kuantan division chief Wan Adnan Wan Mamat had been reported as saying in Sinar Harian that the money was a form of appreciation to Malaysia for “championing Islam” and fighting Isis.

“It was an appreciation to Malaysia for championing Islam and for practising Sunni Islam (Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah),” Wan Adnan was quoted as saying.

Wan Adnan said Najib had said this to 146 Umno divisional leaders at a meeting last Wednesday.

“Not only did Malaysia receive the donation from Saudi Arabia, two or three more countries also received, including the Muslim community in the Philippines and (southern) Thailand,” Wan Adnan was further reported as saying during the opening of the Umno Kuantan division meeting.

Lim added that Najib had lost all moral authority to propose a committee to study political funding regulations as long as the prime minister continued to “fudge and bluff” about the RM2.6 billion in his personal accounts.

“Najib’s proposal of a National Consultative Council on Political Funding, although a dead duck, may still be salvageable if he could re-establish his moral authority to talk about transparency and integrity of political funding.

“There is only one way for Najib to regain moral authority on transparency, integrity and good governance principles – and this is for him to immediately give a full and satisfactory explanation about the RM2.6 billion deposit into his personal bank accounts and about the RM42 billion 1MDB scandal.”

Lim gave Najib and his Cabinet a Wednesday deadline to explain both 1MBD’s debt scandal and the donation to his personal bank accounts.

“Before the expiry of the 96-hour ultimatum on Wednesday, all ministers should declare whether they have received handouts from Najib’s personal accounts, and how much, or state clearly and unmistakably that they had not been beneficiaries at all,” Lim said. – August 17, 2015.

RM2.6 billion for Najib to fight ‘DAP-Jewish’ threat, says Umno leader

The Middle Eastern donor who gave US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) to Datuk Seri Najib Razak made the contribution so that Umno could fight DAP, which is funded by the Jews, during the 2013 general election, said Umno division leader Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said today.

The Sri Gading Umno chief said the donor feared that through DAP, Jewish influences would permeate the country and destroy the “Islamic government” led by Barisan Nasional (BN).

“If we had lost, DAP would be in power. DAP with its Jewish funding would control this country. Based on that, our Muslim friends in the Middle East could see the Jewish threat through DAP,” said Aziz, who is also deputy transport minister.

“If it reached the Islamic government, it would be overthrown, and that would destroy the Islamic struggle (perjuangan Islam) throughout the world.

“Because Najib is seen as a great Muslim leader in this region,” Aziz told delegates at his division’s meeting today in Parit Raja, Johor.

He said he was confused as to why Malays were even questioning the donation, saying that it was an Islamic act to give to others.

“Haven’t you ever given donations? It is encouraged in Islam. The more you donate, the more rewards (pahala) you get.

“Alhamdulillah, Najib, as the party president, he was the warrior (panglima perang) chosen to ensure that we win the general election.”

He urged the Malays not to fall for the “lies” created by foreign media, adding that Umno was the only party that could stop the Jews from taking over the country through DAP.

“Believe me, if the foreigners succeed in splitting us apart, there will be no more Malay party strong enough to fight DAP, which is based on and funded by the Jews.” – August 22, 2015.

Don’t bring viagra or porn to the Haj.

    http://m.firstpost.com/india/haj-pil...i-2404372.html

As pilgrims gear up for Haj to Mecca, the Haj Committee of India (HCOI), a statutory body of Ministry of External Affairs has issued new directives advising them not to carry certain items to Saudi Arabia.

According to a report in Times of India, the HCOI has issued an advisory asking pilgrims to refrain from carrying Viagra, sexual oil and creams, and items such as pornography material, among other list of things.

“Despite the divine commandments that no illegal activities should be carried out during Haj, some pilgrims in the past were found to be smuggling in items like Viagra, sexual oil and creams and many other things, which are banned in Saudi Arabia. We have inserted this advisory in the Haj application forms too,” the report quoted Ataur Rahman, CEO, HCOI, as saying.

However, the advisory has not gone down well with religious leaders within the community to whom the directives seem unsolicited.

According to a report in India TV News, the community leaders believe that pilgrims themselves refrain from sex during Haj and issuing such an advisory will only tarnish the image of Muslims. The general advisory will present Muslims as sex maniacs who cannot do without sex even during Haj.

Every year, over a lakh pilgrims travel from India to Saudi Arabia for Haj. The annual pilgrimage will be performed on September 22 this year.

France train gunman Ayoub El-Khazzani ‘dumbfounded’ at terror allegations and claims he found AK-47 ‘by chance’ in a park

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...-10467965.html

I wonder if it’s his religion that made him stupid or he think the rest of us are stupid.

    By DOUG BOLTON

    Sunday 23 August 2015

Ayoub El-Khazzani, the man suspected of attempting a massacre on a French train, is “dumbfounded” that he is being accused of terrorism and claims he found the AK-47 assault rifle “by chance”, according to his former lawyer.

Sophie David, a lawyer who was assigned to El-Khazzani when he was detained in Arras but is no longer representing him, said he denies firing a single shot.

Speaking to BFM-TV, David said: “He is dumbfounded that his act is being linked to terrorism,” adding that El-Khazzani describes himself as a homeless man.

“He says that by chance he found a suitcase with a weapon, with a telephone, hidden away,” she said.

Security at Brussels Midi station was stepped up after the incident (EPA)

“He said he found it in the park which is just next to the Midi Station in Brussels, where he often sleeps with other homeless people.”

Explaining what El-Khazzani claims he planned to do with the rifle, David said: “He planned to hold up the train, then shoot out a window and jump out to escape.”

“When I told him about the media attention he didn’t understand,” she added.

The 26-year-old gunman is belived to have links to Isis and radical Islam, and was on the Schengen register, a watch-list of “persons of interest” that is shared by 27 European countries.

Officials believe that El-Khazzani planned to kill people on the train. He was discovered with the gun when another passenger encountered him while trying to use the toilet.

The passenger tried to subdue him, and shots started flying, claims Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve.

The gunman was subdued when two American servicemen, US Airman Spencer Stone and National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos, their friend Anthony Sadler, and British businessman Chris Norman tackled and disarmed him.

Sadler described seeing a train employee running down the aisle, followed by a man with a rifle.

US serviceman Spencer Stone waves as he leaves the hospital in Lille. He was injured in the hand as he and three others subdued the gunman (Reuters)

“As he was cocking it to shoot it, Alek just yells, ‘Spencer, go!’ And Spencer runs down the aisle,” Sadler said.

“Spencer makes first contact, he tackles the guy, Alek wrestles the gun away from him, and the gunman pulls out a box cutter and slices Spencer a few times. And the three of us beat him until he was unconscious.”

Norman said he was the last to jump into the fray, grabbing the gunman’s arm and tying it with his tie.

Anthony Sadler, Aleck Sharlatos and Chris Norman helped disarm an attacker on a train from Amsterdam to France.

El-Khazzani denies firing a shot, but Skarlatos, who has served in Afghanistan, said then when he examined the rifle, he found that the gunman had tried to fire it but failed because it had a bad primer.

Stone was taken to hospital with a hand injury, and an unidentified dual French-American citizen was also hospitalised with a bullet wound.

Why so few Malays in Bersih 4?

    http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/310450

COMMENT The question most frequently asked on Bersih 4 is, why are they so few Malays?

I don’t buy the two most common answers: first, PAS does not participate and Harapan Baru does not have the clout; second, Malays are worried of violence and chaos.

For me, the answer is straightforward: the Malays feel politically vulnerable because three main Malay-based parties - first PKR, then PAS, now Umno - are split while the Chinese are seemingly so united behind the opposition especially DAP.

To discourage the Malays to join Bersih 4, one may just need to warn them, if Malays join in enthusiastically, then not only Najib Abdul Razak will go, Umno will lose power, too, and the now politically assertive Chinese will dismantle the New Economic Policy (NEP) and weaken Islam.

Against this backdrop, even if PAS has mobilised, Malay turnout will still be weak because of this anxiety. And ‘violence and chaos’ cited in the Merdeka Center survey is but the code word for the collapse of Umno’s one-party state.

Will I blame our Malay friends who don’t join us? Of course no. Everyone has every right to want the country to be cleaner, freer and more democratic. That needs not have anything to do with ethnicity or religion.

I will not even blame them on their anxiety. Can people force themselves to not be anxious?

Simply because the dismantling of Umno’s one-party state is a colossal change, all of us need a soft landing, not only the Malays who have been told that they will be ‘bangsat’ without Umno.

Malaysia’s political system has been so winner-takes-all, with losers not only marginalised but often also persecuted. Clearly, this is the fear many Umno members harbour.

We can’t have a smooth transition until we can convince fellow Malaysians in Umno this, the party(-state) is over but Umno can choose to transform itself into a competitive democratic parties - like Indonesia’s Golkar, Taiwan’s KMT and Mexico’s PRI.

It is more realistic to ensure you can come back after losing than insisting you will have lost.

In full recognition of the political reality, Bersih 2.0 makes it clear while pressing for Najib’s resignation is necessary for the institutional reforms we need, Bersih 4 is not a rally to end Umno’s rule and will not force Najib out ala the Philippines’ People’s Power or Arab Spring.

We will end the rally peacefully tonight with the Merdeka countdown.

    Aiming to empower Malaysians

We aim to empower Malaysians so that independence is a psychological reality that they fear neither each other because of differences nor the authoritarian government.

If everything ends well tonight, this goal would have been achieved although the push for Najib’s exit remains an uphill battle.

Coming back to the low Malay turnout, while we certainly need to work harder to get more Malays to the streets, should we go this far to border lamenting, why are there so many Chinese? Should the Chinese feel sorry that there are too many of them?

It is time we break this myth that we can’t do anything legitimately until we get the all ethnic representation, or worse, in the right composition: 1 Malay, 1 Chinese, 1 Indian, 1 Sarawakian, 1 Sabahan, etc.

I slept on the pavement on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman last night. It was like a refugee camp with many people - mostly in the illegal yellow Bersih 4 T-shirts - sleeping on not only the pavements, but also the middle of the road. Some brought sleeping bags, some used newspapers as their mat, others just slept on the road.

Why did they sacrifice their comfort in bed? Many of them, like me, have booked hotel rooms for refreshing themselves, but chose to sleep on the streets just to show our yearning for change. Most of them were Chinese while there were also some Malays - middle-aged men, youth and a couple.

Woke up at about 6, I saw a good group of volunteers giving away free coffee, with placards with the words ‘Tak mau duit kopi’ and chanting, “Minum kopi, tak mau duit kopi”. I was so moved by their creativity.

Have I forgotten to mention this? They were all Chinese. So were a bunch of volunteers I bumped into last night busy collecting rubbish - they were all Chinese, too.

I examine my own anxiety which appeared since the beginning of the rally - that there were too few Malays.

I ask myself, what’s wrong that most of them are Chinese? Should I feel sorry that some of my bedfellows on Jalan TAR are not Malays? Should I wish that some of the volunteers should not be there because they are not Malays?

No, why should all the good things they do be less good just because they happen to be in one ethno-religious category and not the other? Why?

Aren’t we hypocritical if we let our pragmatism go mad to the extent that we judge one not by one’s behavior but by one’s colour or creed?

I see two positive implications in the phenomenal Chinese turnout in the Bersih 4 rally, beyond their patriotism and sense of political efficacy.

First, most of them probably have not been exposed to Malay language and culture from indie music, poetry reading to prayers in the open in such intensity. Many may have yet to remember not to blow their vuvuzela and chant during Muslims’ prayer time.

    A learning process

Some may have overlooked cultural sensitivity in their rejection of corrupt readers. But this is a learning process, isn’t it?

Second, if Bersih 4 ends well and peacefully, this will set a precedent that grand rallies can be peaceful, inclusive and strengthening our nationhood, even when the ethnic composition of protesters is skewed.

There will be a long warfare of perception after tonight finale.

On one end, Umno’s mouthpiece will do their best to portray Bersih 4 as a Chinese plot to topple Umno and sideline the Malays. On the other end, naysayers will repeat the old tune that Bersih 4 is a failure because Najib won’t resign after tonight.

I urge all friends out there in Bersih 4 to tell your own story, best with powerful pictures worthy of thousand words.

We have two stories to tell to every other Malaysian whom we may encounter in daily life or on social media:

First, the Bersih 4 rally is dominated, not by ethnic Chinese, but patriotic Malaysians.

Second, the Bersih 4 rally is not failure but a great success, because we find hope and solidarity in each other.

    We are Malaysia.

    Nothing good about joining

    ‘yellow tribe’,

Rosmah’s aide tells Dr M after Bersih 4 rally show

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — Datuk Rizal Mansor, the aide to Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, took a swipe at former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad for the latter’s appearance at the Bersih 4 rallies over the weekend, saying there was nothing pro-people about the move.

In a Facebook posting just hours after the rally ended last night, Rizal said joining the “puak kuning” (yellow tribe) was not the most pertinent way to show one is with the people.

“Kalau nak bersama rakyat bukan pegi join puak baju kuning..(If you want to be with the people you don’t go join the yellow group),” Rizal wrote.

Yesterday evening Dr Mahathir, the man who staunchly opposed to public demonstrations during his 22 years in power, became a part of a mass street protest demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The 90-year-old made his debut as a street protester in the Bersih 4 rally like many others since yesterday, using the public trains and after alighting at the Kuala Lumpur KTM station and footing it downtown to the Pasar Seni LRT station, Central Market and Masjid Jamek.

“I’m here to show solidarity with the people,” he told a news conference later.

“There’s no more avenue for legal redress. We have to resolve through demo. That’s why I’m here. If there is a taskforce to investigate where is the money, I wouldn’t be here,” he added.

Accompanying him was his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah.

Pakistani Christians Told to Convert to Receive Flood Aid

Christians left homeless due to devastating flooding in Pakistan were told by Muslim charities: convert to Islam or become bonded servants.

Christians left homeless due to devastating flooding in Pakistan have been offered an unacceptable choice by Muslim charities providing for victims: convert to Islam or become bonded servants, essentially a form of modern-day slavery.

The choice come with the Pakistani government’s alleged decision to ignore the suffering of the country’s Christian communities.

“When it comes to responding to the flooding of Christian communities, the government seems to back off. Whereas with Muslim communities they respond immediately as do the Muslim charities,” said Wilson Chowdhry, the president of the British Pakistani Christian Association speaking to The Christian Post.

Chowdhry added that “is not unusual for the government to overlook helping the Christian communities.” In addition, the government has not built the proper infrastructure to prevent this type of damage, even though the region is known for severe flooding, he said.

Floods that hit the Kasur region in Pakistan this summer washed away thousands of homes, including those of more than 60 Christian families. While the Muslims left homeless were provided with temporary shelter, clean water and food by the government and Muslim charities, the Christians were not.

Chowdhry said the Christians were told to renounce their religion and convert to Islam if they wanted to receive aid, a choice they rejected. They were offered the option of receiving aid if they became bonded servants to the Muslims.

“We arrived very late. We first went to Layyah and Gilgit where flooding was most severe, but if we had arrived in Kasur seven days earlier, there could have been more lives that we potentially could have saved from this modern-day slavery,” Chowdhry said. “Several families have already now signed contracts, which have now made them slaves for their Muslim landlords.”

Although Chowdhry’s organization is stepping in to help the families, the organization has limited resources as do the churches in Pakistan. img!

Malaysia’s 10-0 loss to UAE may have been caused by ‘paranormal beings’, claims ‘Islamic’ medical expert/ Bodoh!!!

    http://m.todayonline.com/sports/foot...claims-islamic

KUALA LUMPUR — “Makhluk halus” or paranormal beings may be to blame for Malaysia’s 10-0 drubbing by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a World Cup qualifying match on Wednesday (Sept 2), Malay tabloid Kosmo reported today (Sept 6).

While pundits and fans alike have pointed to obvious weaknesses in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) as the reason for the country’s stunning defeat, the daily cited an “Islamic” medical expert Shamsuri Shafie as not discounting the possibility that such paranormal beings were employed to distract the national players on field.

The players may have been disturbed by the entities because they forgot to recite prayers before playing, he was reported saying further.

“As Muslims we are encouraged to recite prayers before doing any activities including playing football. People then will usually recite prayers before playing so they will be blessed and protected from being disturbed by these paranormal entities,” Mr Shamsuri was quoted as saying.

He added that it is haram (forbidden) for Malay-Muslims to believe in black magic and such, but other cultures may practise it and applied them during the match.

“Sometimes there are beliefs that practise black magic to be strong on the field,” Mr Shamsuri reportedly said.

The UAE is also an Islamic country.

Ironically in the same report, Kosmo quoted a psychologist from the University of Malaya that the embarrassing defeat suffered by the national squad nicknamed Harimau Malaya was likely caused by mental weakness.

The Kosmo news report has been widely shared on social media sites Twitter and Facebook, drawing ridicule from fans who mostly pointed out that such mind-sets dominate the FAM and is the very cause of Malaysia’s dwindling football quality.

Yesterday, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin requested FAM president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah act on the shameful performance of the national team, starting with those “around him” in the association.

Mr Khairy was quoted by The Star Online as saying that he is almost certain that those in the FAM are not fit to be there.

National football coach Dollah Salleh has since resigned for the catastrophic performance and has been replaced by Under-23 Harimau Muda coach Ong Kim Swee.

Malaysia lost to UAE in Abu Dhabi in the Asian Zone World Cup qualifiers, after the latter led by 7-0 in the half-time, setting a record for the country’s worst ever defeat in a competitive match. THE MALAY MAIL ONLINE img!

Muslim flight attendant says she was suspended for refusing to serve alcohol

    http://edition.cnn.com/2015/09/05/tr...ttendant-feat/

(CNN)A Muslim flight attendant says she was suspended by ExpressJet for refusing to serve alcohol in accordance with her Islamic faith.

In a bid to get her job back, Charee Stanley filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Tuesday for the revocation of a reasonable religious accommodation.

She wants to do her job without serving alcohol in accordance with her Islamic faith – just as she was doing before her suspension, her lawyer said.

“What this case comes down to is no one should have to choose between their career and religion and it’s incumbent upon employers to provide a safe environment where employees can feel they can practice their religion freely,” said Lena Masri, an attorney with Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Stanley, 40, started working for ExpressJet nearly three years ago. About two years ago she converted to Islam. This year she learned her faith prohibits her from not only consuming alcohol but serving it, too, Masri said.

She approached her supervisor on June 1 and was told to work out an arrangement for someone to fulfill passenger requests for alcohol.

“It was at the direction of the airlines that she began coordinating with the other flight attendant on duty so that when a passenger requested alcohol, the other flight attendant would accommodate that request,” Masri said. “We know that this arrangement has worked beautifully and without incident and that it hasn’t caused any undue burden on the airline. After all, it was the suggestion of the airline.”

Flight attendants complained about ‘menacing’ images on aircraft

It seemed to be working out until another flight attendant filed a complaint against Stanley on August 2 claiming she was not fulfilling her duties by refusing to serve alcohol, Masri said. The employee complaint also said Stanley had a book with “foreign writings” and wore a headdress.

On August 25, the airline sent a letter to Stanley informing her that it was revoking its religious accommodation to exclude her from service of alcohol and placing her on administrative leave.

“They placed her on unpaid leave and they advised her that her employment may be terminated after 12 months,” Masri said. “We are requesting that her employment be reinstated and the accommodation of her religious beliefs be reinstated as well.”

A spokesman for ExpressJet declined to discuss Stanley’s complaint.

“At ExpressJet, we embrace and respect the values of all of our team members. We are an equal opportunity employer with a long history of diversity in our workforce. As Ms. Stanley is an employee, we are not able to comment on her personnel matters,” spokesman Jarek Beem said in an email.
