I accompany miss V to Camden medical centre on the day for surgery .
We were given some time alone before they wheel her into the operating room
Miss V " go back and report to my PA miss YOKO , there is no need to stay here and wait "
Me " alright "
I held her hand and planted a kiss on her lips.
A nurse came in and did the preparation work.
I walked back to the hotel and contacted miss YOKO at the lobby.
Me " hello Charles here , I was told to report to you ? "
YOKO " how is V ? How long will the surgery take !"
I was stunted for a while .
Me " you knew abt her medical condition ? "
Y " yes , In fact the company is aware of her condition . Miss V just couldn’t decide to have the operation done here or in USA . "
Why did she ask me not to inform miss YOKO abt it ?
My confused mind just could not click it together . Miss YOKO asked me to arrange for another driver to replace me and Take the next few days off.
The operation was over and i was back at the hospital. She was placed in a HD/ICU ward. I stood outside the glass panel and look at her. The doctor informed me that her BP was unstable and that was their main concern. I stay in the hospital and went over every 30 mins to take a look to see if she has woken up from the GA.
Cross over to Tanglin Mall and had a vegetarian meal. I couldn’t even finish up the meal. Had a hot drink and headed back to the hospital.
Standing outside the ICU unit, looking thru the glass panel, i could see the clear transparent tube sticking out of her mouth connecting to the ventilator at the other end and sort of other gadgets connecting to her body.
The doctor came to gave me and update before his shift ended. He advice me to head back to rest and come back tomorrow morning. I walk back to St Rxxxx Hotel. Tap the access card and went straight to Miss V suite to rest. Gave a ring over to Miss Yoko and gave her update of the situation.
My body was physically tired but my mind was alert. Try to get some sleep but all I could do was to toss and turn on the bed.
The hotel room phone rang continuously and woke me up from my sleep
Me “ yes ‘
Yoko “ i try calling your HP couldn’t reach you. The doctor called. We are required to head down to the Camden .”
I rushed to get dress and meet at the hotel driveway.
In less than 10 mins we were at the lobby of Camden Medical Centre.
Me “ u head straight up i will parked the car”
Yoko rushed out and head straight to the lift lobby.
We were not allow in and was told by the staff nurse that the doctor is in the room. Apparently, Miss V blood pressure drop drastically and she has not gain conscious yet.
We waited abt 45 mins before the doctor come to speak to us.
He spoke directly to Miss Yoko while i stood beside listening.
From what i gather the outlook doesn’t look too good. The doctor says the next few days were crucial. If Miss V doesn’t gain conscious, the possibility for recovery might be slim.
Miss Yoko thanked the doctor and we proceed to stand outside the ICU unit looking through the glass panel.
After 30mins miss Yoko pull me out. She handed me a letter.
Yoko : “ Miss V had prepared this letter in advance. Should something like this happening this letter was to be passed to you.”
I took the letter . Miss Yoko excused herself and head back to the hotel on her own.
The letter was sealed and i recognise miss V hand writing on it “ CHARLES”
I open and read it .
It states that should she be in coma , she doesn’t want to be on life support . that is the reason why she want me to be her LPA. It also states that Miss Yoko is the next CFO as such she cant be appointed as the LPA . it ended with some very intimate/touching word from her thank me for the time spend with me in Singapore. She asked me to be strong and to made know her final wishes to the doctor.
After reading i just sat down on the floor in shock. Realizing that an important decision has to be made.
After three days there wasn’t any sign of improvement .
I arrange a meeting with Miss YOKO and we had a talk abt it.
Miss YOKO was on the fence on this matter. The ball came back to my court and I had to make a decision. Had a another round of discussion and finally I told the doctor what miss V had requested for. Doctor gave his expert point of view and left me to make the decision.
It was a Friday morning when miss YOKO and I gather back in the ICU room. Together with the doctor , we were there to Witness the process. I held on to miss V hand while the doctors gave her a jab. Slowly they removed the life supporting machines.
The doctor gave me some time alone before he tab me on my shoulders.
Doc " I need to do a final examination "
I release miss V hand.
The doctor announced the time of departure and the nurse took down notes. Miss YOKO accompany me out and took over from there,
She had everything plan out and the funeral casket staff were already on standby to assist.
The wake will be one week long as several VIP are flying over to pay their respect.
The funeral casket company managed to get a venue in a church compound. It was a separate annex building. The compound was large enough to cater for human and vehicle traffic flow. The funeral casket ppl were out on full force. I was sure that miss YOKO had requested for the best service they could offer. I sat right at the back of the hall and observe what was going on.
I was tasked by miss YOKO to safe guard the in coming cash donation and cheques. Every night miss YOKO company staff would hand it over to me once they double check on it. I would then place it the safe in the hotel room .
On the final day i wore a suit. I got Mr Z to provide chauffeuring service for the day. Mr Z arrived in a black benz. I open the back door for miss YOKO while I took the front seat.
The guest were given a chance to pay their last respect in case they didn’t want to proceed to Mandai for the cremation service.
The coffin was lifted up and place into the hearse. Mr Z inch the car at snail place following behind as miss YOKO and I sat In the car. We arrived about 5 minutes earlier and were on standby just outside the hall , waiting for the hearse to arrive. A waiting crowd has already gather. After witnessing the arrival of the casket, we were directed to the Hall. The VIP had usher to direct them to their seat. A senior guy in uniform got my attention .. " sir row two on the right side of the hall pls"
Miss YOKO delivered the eulogy. Guest and VIP were given white flowers to place on the casket for the final farewell. Miss YOKO pull me aside and whisper ..
YOKO " we will do it last "
I just stood beside her and waited .
When everybody was done, the funeral director came over and gave miss YOKO a white rose. While I was given a red rose. Immediately the hall filled with loud whisper and curious stare !
Miss YOKO went ahead to place her flower and stood back in line .
I step forward, look thru the glass panel and whisper softly…
" I will see you up there "
Place the red rose on the coffin and step back in line.
A male NEA office came in and push the coffin out while we proceed to the viewing gallery.
The viewing galley hall was packed , still miss YOKO and I managed to find a spot in front.
A robotic machinery inch the casket slowly towards the front . The door open and in the coffin went.
I raised my right hand and bid my final farewell !

I pack miss V suit case. I took a set of clothes out of miss v suitcase. Something to remind me of her. Took the money out of the safe deposit box . I called mr z and he got the car ready for me.
Me " hey Z thank you for your help. This is something small from me "
Z " bro , no charge . This is a small gesture from me to you. "
I gave me mr z a bear hug .
Me " send me back home. These two suitcase when you are back the hotel pass it back to miss YOKO , she will give you instruction from there"
Z " ok brother "
Took out my suit and went straight to shower.
My HP beep …
" 430 pm at Dempsey , mr z will come pick u up "
The Sms was from miss YOKO.
I hop into the car at about 415pm.
Me " any idea what is this abt ?"
Z " I have no idea "
The car pull over at Harry’s bar at Dempsey. Of all place ? Isn’t this the first job assignment I send ms V to when I first assign to her .
With a heavy breathe I step out off the car.
" Charles “……
Miss YOKO was sitting outside . Having a cold stout .
Me to the waitress " same drink pls "
YOKO " here the cash and Chqs from the funeral wake. I want you to have it "
I gave her the stunt look .
Me " no I can’t accept this "
YOKO " ok let’s put this aside "
She went on to speak .
YOKO " Charles , I am the new appointed CFO of the company . I would be base in singapore for two years overseeing Southeast Asia . "
Me " congrats on your promotion. "
My stout came and glup half of it down.
YOKO " I would like you to work for me "
I put my hand up .
Me " sorry not interested. I going for a holiday . I need a break . You can try mr Z. He is a good driver "
YOKO " mr Z is already on my payroll as my temp driver. I want you to come In after that "
My eyes open wide as I took another mouth of my stout .
Me " I going for a holiday … "
YOKO " sure Charles . " … She cut me off.
She quickly took a name card from her organizer .
YOKO " go to this tour agency "
Me " ok "
YOKO " Charles , this position is a private arrangement between you and me . On top of your monthly pay, I will give you a 6 months bonus at the end of the year. " I am really sincere abt it.”
Me " I don’t think I am in a right frame of mind to consider this offer right now.
YOKO " ok , go for your Break . We talk after that "
Mr Z car pull over.
YOKO " send me back to the hotel , after that send mr Charles wherever he wants to go"
I hop into the car .
YOKO " have a good rest Charles , I will see u when u are back "
The next day at about 1030am I arrived at the tour agency office.
Me " hi I am Charles , I was given this name card and …… "
The front desk counter immediately make a call without even looking at the card.
Within two minutes a lady from the back end office came out.
Lady " mr Charles , welcome . I am Catherine . This way please."
I sat down on the office chair .
Another lady in uniform came with a hot towel for me to freshen up.
She asked " can I get u a drink ? "
Me " expresso pls if u have it "
She nodded her head and went out.
Catherine " so how can we be service to you mr Charles ? "
Me " I would like to head to Sabah tomorrow for 3 days"
Catherine " excellent choice ! "
She started scribbling down on the notepad
C " consider it done "
My coffee came and miss Catherine pass the note to her junior staff.
She took it and went out to make the necessary arrangements.
After 15 mins later the junior staff came in and pass a folder to ms Catherine.
She took it and gave a final look at it .
Ms Catherine " there u go mr Charles all the details are highlighted in yellow for your attention. "
Me " ok do you accept MasterCard ? "
Miss Catherine " no payment is required , this is under a company account ! "
I knew what she meant. Took my leave immediately after that.
