    Chapter #31

    A 100 Days Love Story

Peter and Tina are sitting in the park doing nothing, but just gazing into the sky, while all their friends are having fun with their beloved half.

Tina: I’m so bored. Just wish I have a boyfriend now to spend time with.

Peter: I guess we’re the only leftovers. We’re the only person who isn’t with a date now. (Both sigh and silence for a while)

    Tina: I think I have a good idea. Let’s play a game.

    Peter: Eh? What game?

Tina: Erm… It’s quite simple. You be my boyfriend for 100 days and I’ll be your girlfriend for 100 days. What do you think?

Peter: Okay. Anyway I don’t have any plan for the next few months.

Tina: You sound like you aren’t looking forward to it at all. Cheer up. Today will be our first day and our first date. Where should we go?

Peter: What about a movie? I heard that there is a really great movie in theater now.

Tina: Seems like I don’t have any better idea than this. Let’s move. (Went to watch their movies and sent each other home)

Day 2: Peter and Tina went to a concert together, and Peter bought Tina a keychain with a star.

Day 3: They went shopping together for a friend’s birthday present. Share an ice-cream together and hugged each other for the first time.

Day 7: Peter drove Tina up onto a mountain and they watch the sunset together. When the night came and the moon glowed, they said sat on the grass gazing at the stars together. A meteor passed by. Tina mumbled something.

Day 25: Spend time at a theme park and got onto roller coasters, and ate hotdogs and cotton candy. Peter and Tina got in the haunted house and Tina grabbed someone’s hand instead of Peter’s hand by accident. They laughed together for a while.

Day 67: They drove pass a circus and decided to get in to watch the show. The midget asked Tina to play a part as his assistant in the magic show. Went around to see other entertainments around after the show. Came to a fortune teller and she just said, “Treasure every moment from now on” and a tear rolled down the fortune teller’s cheek.

Day 84: Tina suggested that they go to the beach. The beach wasn’t so crowded that day. They have their first kiss with each other just as the sun is setting.

Day 99: They decided to have a simple day and are deciding to have a walk around the city. They sit down onto a bench.

    1:23 pm

Tina: I’m thirsty. Let’s rest for a while first.

Peter: Wait here while I go buy some drinks. What would you like?

Tina: Erm… Apple juice will be just fine.

    1:43 pm

Tina waiting for about 20 minutes and Peter haven’t return. Then someone walked up to her.

    Stranger: Is your name Tina?

Tina: Yes, and may I help you?

Stranger: Just now down there on the street a drunk driver has crashed into a guy. I think it’s your friend.

Tina ran over to the spot with the stranger and sees Peter lying on the floor with blood over his face and her apple juice still in his hands. The ambulance came and she went to the hospital with Peter. Tina sat outside the emergency room for five and a half hours. The doctor came out, and he sigh.

    11:51 pm

Doctor: I’m sorry, but we did the best we could. He is still breathing now but God would take him away from us very soon. We found this letter inside his pocket.

The doctor hands over the letter to Tina and she goes into the room to see Peter. He looks weak but peaceful. Tina read the letter and then she burst into tears. Here is what the letter said.

Tina, our 100 days is almost over. I had fun with you during all these days. Although you may be greedy sometimes and less thoughtful, but these all brought happiness into my life. I have realized that you are a really cute girl and blamed myself for never taken the time to knowing that. I have nothing much to ask for.

    * Be sensitive to your surroundings. Things happen in a flash sometimes too fast for you to notice but they only appears once.

    Chapter #32

Rewards and Risks Of Personal Freedom

One of the first things I noticed about my newly purchased parrot was that he couldn’t fly. Chico’s wings had been clipped and he was stuck here on earth just like us humans.

Once the weather turned nice I took Chico and sat him on a branch of a tree in my backyard, hoping to make him happier. At first he seemed confused. He walked back and forth on the branch looking like an agitated father pacing back and forth in the maternity waiting room. I was surprised to see that he didn’t flap his wings in an attempt to fly. Somehow he knew he was incapable. I always wondered how he knew such a thing.

One day, while sitting on his branch, Chico got way more agitated than he had been when I first took him outside months ago. He was pacing back and forth and talking up a storm. Then all of a sudden, he stopped pacing, let out a spine tingling scream, and started madly flapping his wings for the first time ever. About three seconds later, he lifted off from the branch like the space shuttle at Cape Canaveral! I was amazed and shocked. Little did I know his feathers had been growing back in, and just like a sly convict, Chico had been biding his time until the moment was ripe for escape!

Chico made his break for freedom on a late Monday afternoon, and by late Monday night I knew he was not coming home. Finally, on Tuesday evening Chico returned, but stayed way out of reach. I talked to him and showed him some food, but to no avail. Then I took his cage inside so he would not relate coming back to getting locked up again. Finally, I made him a firm promise that if he did come back I would let him out every day the weather was nice. Shortly after making my solemn oath, he flew onto my shoulder and I took him upstairs.

From that day on, whenever the weather was good I would let him out early and he would fly around and be back before dark. This routine lasted for about two months and then suddenly Chico became ill. The vet said that he had contracted a disease from the pigeons in the neighborhood. Within a few days he died, and I mourned his loss.

Just once the thought crossed my mind that if I had not set him free to fly every day, he would still be alive. It was then that I realized that the quality of one’s life is much more important than the number of years one lives. What sense is there in being a bird if you can’t fly?

Chico made his initial break for freedom on a late Monday afternoon in April. When will you make yours? You too can take a chance when the conditions are right, knowing you too in your own way, we’re built to fly. If you don’t set yourself free, what will be the purpose of your life?

I would suggest that the quality of one’s life is dependant on feeling one’s essence, and living the design that is you. If you are a fish, your life needs to be all about swimming. If you are a bird, your life needs to be all about flying and spreading your message to all that you meet along the way. What sense is there in being you, if you don’t really let yourself free and express your heart?

    Chapter #33

    Unselfish Love

There was once this guy who is very much in love with his girl. This romantic guy folded 1,000 pieces of paper cranes as a gift to his girl. Although, at that time he was just a small fry in his company, his future doesn’t seem too bright, they were very happy together. Until one day, his girl told him she was going to Paris and will never come back. She also told him that she cannot visualize any future for the both of them, so they went their own ways there and then.

Heartbroken, the guy agreed. But when he regained his confidence, he worked hard day and night, slogging his body and mind just to make something out of himself. Finally with all the hard work and the help of friends, this guy had set up his own company.

One rainy day, while this guy was driving, he saw an elderly couple sharing an umbrella in the rain walking to some destination. Even with the umbrella, they were still drenched. It didn’t take him long to realize they were his girl’s parents. With a heart in getting back at them, he drove slowly beside the couple, wanting them to spot him in his luxury sedan.

He wanted them to know that he wasn’t the same anymore, he had his own company, car, condo, etc. He made it! What he saw next confused him, the couple was walking towards a cemetery, and so he got out of his car and followed and he saw his girl, a photograph of her smiling sweetly as ever at him from her tombstone and he saw his paper cranes right beside her.

Her parents saw him. He asked them why had this happened. They explained. She did not leave for France at all. She was ill with cancer. She had believed that he will make it someday, but she did not want to be his obstacle. Therefore she had chosen to leave him. Just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to, doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have. She had wanted her parents to put his paper cranes beside her, because, if the day comes when fate brings him to her again, he can take some of those back with him. Once you have loved, you will always love. For what’s in your mind may escape but what’s in your heart will remain forever.

The guy just wept. The worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right besides her knowing you can’t have her, see her or be with her ever again. Hope you understand.

    * Find time to realize that there is one person who means so much to you, for you might wake up one morning losing that person who you thought meant nothing to you.

    Chapter #34

The Story Of Jin and Jo

I have a boyfriend who grew up with me. His name is Jin. I always thought of him as a friend until last year, when we went to a trip from a club. I found that I fell in love with him. Before that trip was over, I took a step and confessed my love for him and soon, we became a pair of lovers, but we loved each other in different ways.

I always concentrated on him only, but by his side, there were so many other girls. To me, he was the only one, but to him, maybe I was just another girl.

“Jin, do you want to go watch a movie?” I asked.

    Jin: “I can’t.”

Me: “Why? You need to study at home? I felt disappointment grabbing me.”

Jin: “No. I am going to meet a friend.”

He was always like that. He met girls in front of me, like it was nothing. To him, I was just a girlfriend. The word “love” only came out from my mouth. Since I knew him, I had never heard him say “I love you” before. To us, there weren’t any anniversaries at all. He didn’t say anything from the first day and it continued till 100 days, 200days. Everyday, before we say goodbye, he would just hand me a doll, everyday, without fail. I don’t know why. Then one day…

    Me: “Um, Jin, I…”

Jin: “What? Don’t drag, just say.”

    Me: “I love you.”

Jin: “You… Um, just take this doll and go home.”

That was how he ignored my three words and handed me the doll. Then he disappeared, like he was running away. The dolls I received from him everyday filled my room, one by one. There were many. Then one day came, my 15th year old birthday. When I got up in the morning, I pictured a party with him, and stranded myself in my room, waiting for his call.

But lunch passed, dinner passed and soon the sky was dark, he still didn’t call. It was already tiring to look at the phone anymore. Then around 2AM in the morning, he suddenly called me and woke me from my sleep. He told me to come out of the house. Still, I felt joy and I ran out happily.

    Me: “Jin…”

    Jin: “Here. Take this.”

Again, he handed me a little doll.

    Me: “What’s this?”

Jin: “I didn’t give it to you yesterday, so I am giving it to you now. I’m going home now, bye.”

Me: “Wait, wait! Do you know what today is?”

    Jin: “Today? Huh?”

I felt so sad, I thought he would remember my birthday. He turned around and walked away like nothing had happen. Then I shouted. “Wait…”

Jin: “You have something to say?”

Me: “Tell me, tell me you love me.”

    Jin: “What?”

    Me: “Tell me.”

I put my pathetic self behind and clung on to him. But he just said simple cold words and left.

Jin: “I don’t want to say that I love someone so easily, if you are desperate to hear it, then find someone else.”

That was what he said. Then he ran off. My legs felt numb and I collapsed to the ground. He didn’t want to say it easily. How could he! I felt that maybe he is not the right guy for me. After that day, I stranded myself at home crying, just crying. He didn’t call me, although I was waiting. He just continued handing me a little doll every morning outside my house. That’s how those dolls piled up in my room everyday.

After a month, I got myself together and went to school. But what made the pain resurface was that I saw him on a street with another girl. He had a smile on his face, one that he never showed me as he touched the doll. I ran straight back home and looked at the dolls in my room, and tears fell.

Me: “Why did he gave these to me?”

Those dolls are probably picked out by some other girls. In a fit of anger, I threw the dolls around. Then suddenly, the phone rang. It was him. He told me to come out to the bus stop outside my house. I tried to calm myself down and walked to the bus stop. I kept reminding myself that I am going to forget him, that it’s going to end. Then he came into my sight, holding a big doll.

Jin: “Jo, I thought you were pissed, you really came?”

I couldn’t help hating him, acting like nothing had happen and joking around. Soon, he held out the doll as usual.

    Me: “I don’t need it.”

    Jin: “What? why?”

I grabbed the doll from his hands and threw it on the road.

Me: “I don’t need this doll, I don’t need it anymore! I don’t want to see a person like you again!”

I spitted out all the words that were inside me. But unlike other days, his eyes very shaking.

    Jin: “I’m sorry.”

He apologized in a tiny voice. He then walked over to the road to pick up the doll.

Me: “You stupid! Why are you picking up the doll? Just throw it away!”

But he ignored me and just went to pick the doll. Then… Honk~ Honk~ with a loud honk, a big truck was heading towards him.

“Jin! Move! Move away!” I shouted.

But he didn’t hear me, he squatted down and picked up the doll.

    Me: “Jin, move!”

    HONK~

*Boom!* That sound, so terrifying. That’s how he went away from me. That’s how he went away without even opening his eyes to say one word to me. After that day, I had to go through everyday with guiltiness and the sadness of losing him and after spending two months like a crazy person I took out the dolls. Those were the only gifts he left me since the day we started going out. I remembered the days I spent with him and started to count the days when we were in love.

“One… two… three…” That was how I started to count the dolls. “Four hundred and eighty four… four hundred and eighty five.” It all ended with 485 dolls. I then started to cry again, with a doll in my arms. I hugged it tightly, then suddenly.

    “I love you~, I love you~”

    I dropped the dolls, shocked.

    “I…lo..ve..you?”

I picked up the dolls and pressed its stomach.

    “I love you~ I love you~”

It can’t be! I pressed all the dolls’ stomach as it piled on the side.

    “I love you~” “I love you~” “I love you~”

    Those words came out non-stop.

    “I love you~”

Why didn’t I realize that? That his heart was always by my side, protecting me. Why didn’t I realize that he love me this much. I took out the doll under the bed and pressed it’s stomach, that was the last doll, the one that fell on the road. It had his blood stain on it. The voice came out, the on that I was missing so much.

“Jo… Do you know what today is? We’ve been loving each other for 486 days. Do you know what 486 is? I couldn’t say I love you…. Um… Since I was too shy. If you forgive me and take this doll, I will say that I love you everyday till I die… Jo… I love you!”

The tears came flowing out of me. Why? Why? I asked. God, why do I only know about all this now? He can’t be by my side, but he loved me until his last minute for that and for that reason to me it became courage to live a beautiful life.

It’s better to lose your pride with someone you love rather than lose someone that you love with your useless pride!

    Chapter #35

    Buying Time

The man came home from work late again, tired and irritated, to find his 5 year old son waiting for him at the door.

“Daddy, may I ask you a question?” “Yeah, sure, what is it?” replied the man.

“Daddy, how much money do you make an hour?” “That’s none of your business! What makes you ask such a thing?” the man said angrily.

“I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?” pleaded the little boy.

“If you must know, I make $20.00 an hour.”

“Oh,” the little boy replied, head bowed. Looking up, he said, “Daddy, may I borrow $10.00 please?”

The father was furious. “If the only reason you wanted to know how much money I make is just so you can borrow some to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you’re being so selfish. I work long, hard hours everyday and don’t have time for such childish games.”

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even madder about the little boy’s questioning. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money. After an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think he may have been a little hard on his son. Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10.00, and he really didn’t ask for money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.

“Are you asleep son?” he asked.

“No daddy, I’m awake,” replied the boy.

“I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier,” said the man. “It’s been a long day and I took my aggravation out on you. Here’s that $10.00 you asked for.”

The little boy sat straight up, beaming. “Oh, thank you daddy!” he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow, he pulled out some more crumpled up bills.

The man, seeing that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, then looked up at the man.

“Why did you want more money if you already had some?” the father grumbled.

“Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,” the little boy replied.

“Daddy, I have $20.00 now. Can I buy an hour of your time?”

    Chapter #36

A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving couple and the boy was the gem of their eyes. When the boy was around two years old, one morning the husband saw a medicine bottle open. He was late for office so he asked his wife to cap the bottle and keep it in the cupboard. His wife, preoccupied in the kitchen totally forgot the matter.

The boy saw the bottle and playfully went to the bottle fascinated by its color and drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous medicine meant for adults in small dosages.

When the child collapsed the mother hurried him to the hospital. He died. The mother was stunned. She was terrified how she was going to face her husband.

When the distraught father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, he looked at his wife and uttered just five words.

    QUESTIONS :

    What were the five words

    ?

    1. What is the

    implication of this story

    ?

    Scroll down to read….

    ANSWER

    :

    The husband just said "

    I am with you Darling

    “.

The husband’s totally unexpected reaction is a proactive behavior. The child is dead. He can never be brought back to life. There is no point in finding fault with the mother.

Besides, if only he had taken time to keep the bottle away, this would not have happened.

No one is to be blamed. She had also lost her only child.

What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy from the husband. That is what he gave her. If everyone can look at life with this kind of perspective, there would be much fewer problems in the world. “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness, and fears. And you will find things are actually not as difficult as you think.

    MORAL OF THE STORY

This story is really worth reading. Sometimes we spend time in asking who is responsible or whom to blame, whether in a relationship, in a job or with the people we know. By this way we miss out some warmth in human relationship.

    Chapter #37

    Father’s Eyes

Bob Richards, the former pole-vault champion, shares a moving story about a skinny young boy who loved football with all his heart. Practice after practice, he eagerly gave everything he had. But being half the size of the other boys, he got absolutely nowhere. At all the games, this hopeful athlete sat on the bench and hardly ever played. This teenager lived alone with his father, and the two of them had a very special relationship.

Even though the son was always on the bench, his father was always in the stands cheering. He never missed a game. This young man was still the smallest of the class when he entered high school. But his father continued to encourage him but also made it very clear that he did not have to play football if he didn’t want to. But the young man loved football and decided to hang in there. He was determined to try his best at every practice, and perhaps he’d get to play when he became a senior.

All through high school he never missed a practice nor a game but remained a bench-warmer all four years. His faithful father was always in the stands, always with words of encouragement for him.

When the young man went to college, he decided to try out for the football team as a “walk-on.” Everyone was sure he could never make the cut, but he did. The coach admitted that he kept him on the roster because he always puts his heart and soul to every practice, and at the same time, provided the other members with the spirit and hustle they badly needed.

The news that he had survived the cut thrilled him so much that he rushed to the nearest phone and called his father. His father shared his excitement and was sent season tickets for all the college games. This persistent young athlete never missed practice during his four years at college, but he never got to play in a game.

It was the end of his senior football season, and as he trotted onto the practice field shortly before the big playoff game, the coach met him with a telegram. The young man read the telegram and he became deathly silent.

Swallowing hard, he mumbled to the coach, “My father died this morning. Is it all right if I miss practice today?” The coach put his arm gently around his shoulder and said, “Take the rest of the week off, son. And don’t even plan to come back to the game on Saturday.”

Saturday arrived, and the game was not going well. In the third quarter, when the team was ten points behind, a silent young man quietly slipped into the empty locker room and put on his football gear. As he ran onto the sidelines, the coach and his players were astounded to see their faithful teammate back so soon. “Coach, please let me play. I’ve just got to play today,” said the young man. The coach pretended not to hear him. There was no way he wanted is worst player in this close playoff game.

But the young man persisted, and finally feeling sorry for the kid, the coach gave in. “All right,” he said. “You can go in.” Before long, the coach, the players and everyone in the stands could not believe their eyes. This little unknown, who had never played before was doing everything right. The opposing team could not stop him. He ran, he passed, blocked, and tackled like a star.

His team began to triumph. The score was soon tied. In the closing seconds of the game, this kid intercepted a pass and ran all the way for the winning touchdown. The fans broke loose. His teammates hoisted him onto their shoulders. Such cheering you never heard.

Finally, after the stands had emptied and the team had showered and left the locker room, the coach noticed that this young man was sitting quietly in the corner all alone. The coach came to him and said, “Kid, I can’t believe it. You were fantastic! Tell me what got into you? How did you do it?”

He looked at the coach, with tears in his eyes, and said, “Well, you knew my dad died, but did you know that my dad was blind?” The young man swallowed hard and forced a smile, “Dad came to all my games, but today was the first time he could see me play, and I wanted to show him I could do it!”
