He woke up in sweat.

Why does it feel so real?

His heart was still pumping.

Gin was asleep at his side.

Evans: Bernice, I need to admit now. My contraction is coming.

Bernice immediately took all her things and called a cab. Evans was rushed to the hospital. She waited and waited. She was just beside her.

Now after breakfast in the hotel, Gin and Daniel packed up and was ready to depart off back to Singapore. The short break was good and relaxing. Gin was even closer to him now. But were they a couple as yet? He did not say or announce. Gin just kept quiet for she was already happy staying by his side.

It has been already 8 hours and finally Evans gave birth to a pretty little girl. She had Daniel’s eyes and was a hybrid of the two. She carried her weakly and smiled at Bernice. She too said congrats to her.

Things were still the same. Daniel was still back at his old company, except that he was promoted to the managerial post now. Being the sale manager was challenging but he loved the stress. Gin was still living in his house, taking care of the housework.

The doorbell rang and she ran towards the door.

Gin: Welcome home Dan!

She grinned widely.

But at the door was Bernice and Evans, carrying a baby girl.

Bernice: Hi, is Daniel in?

Gin: Erh… he would be coming home anytime now I guess. Em… You are?

His car turned into the garage and he came out of the car. Upon seeing the familiar back view of Bernice and Evans, he was really happy when he shouted.

Daniel: Bernice! Evans!

And when they turned, his face turned sheet white. And strangely, the little one was giggling at him.

His heart raced. He couldn’t explain what was happening and how he felt. The only thing he could do was invite them into the house before anything else.

All of them sat in the plush sofa. None said a word.

Daniel sat on the sofa. His palms were sweating.

Gin was all confused.

Bernice was staring at Daniel.

Evans was carrying her daughter.

Then his phone rang. He excused himself. Thanking the phone for letting him get out of the tense atmosphere.

It was Allison.

Allison: Hey Dan, how are you? How are things with Gin? We are just around the corner, do you mind opening the gates of your house so I can park inside?

*Fuck.. not now.*

He could hear the honking and he had to open it.

The door wasn’t locked and Allison came in, followed by Rena.

And when he saw Rena, he wanted to become invisible. He literally wanted to.

For she was also carrying another baby.

He pulled his hair, gritted his teeth, clenched his fist and looked at them in horror.

Bernice, Rena, Evans, Gin, Allison and two little children.

Rena: Oh wow. What a crowd you have Daniel.

FML. What the hell should I do? Daniel thought.

This was the moment he dreaded.

He knew it would come to this one day but he had never planned how to react.

They exchanged looks and found something wrong.

Daniel felt like tiptoeing and escaping when Bernice stood up.

The atmosphere became really tense.

Bernice: How old is the child?

Daniel wanted to pull all the strands of hair on his head when Gin stood up.

Evans hugged her baby. Her little girl was starting to cry and so was Rena’s.

The two little ones ‘sang’ their duets of loud cries. Palms were slapping heads.

Bernice: Alright, let’s settle this peacefully. Rena, have you named your baby girl?

Rena: Yes. She’s called Diana, adopting the first alphabet of her dad.

Bernice: Are you going to name the child of Evans?

He thought for a long while when he replied: How about Delphine?

Evan’s daughter suddenly stopped crying and was giggling after hearing the name Delphine.

Bernice: Delphine.

Baby pauses and giggles.

Evans: Delphine.

Baby pauses and giggles.

Bernice: Her name would be Delphine.

Bernice: Daniel, Evans has been chased out from her family. She fought so much to be with you.

Rena: Hey me too.

Each of them was like trying to stand on the titanic when it sank.

Bernice: Now Daniel. You need to make the choice.

He blanked out.

Allison was the first to say: Hey I’m not involved. I should make my move now. Bye Daniel.

They could hear the car engine starting and driving off.

Daniel tried to avoid contact with the ladies as he let his mind drift for a moment. And the four girls were waiting. All folded their arms and stared at him.

Sitting right in the middle surrounded by his lovers wasn’t really the best feel. All he could hear was his own heavy breathing through his ears. But strangely the scene was not filled with any quarrels. They were all just waiting for an answer. But even Daniel himself didn’t know what to do and reply. He just sat there for 20 minutes and the awkward silence still kept on.

Bernice could not take the silence any longer when she broke the silence.

Bernice: Since you can’t come to a conclusion. I will counter propose the solution for the best of all the ladies here.

She did a headcount.

Herself. Rena. Evans. Gin. 4 in total with 2 minis.

She said without thinking: You have a total of 6 rooms here in this apartment. Each will take their individual rooms. The other two rooms; one will be set as the children’s play room. You ARE to go and dress up the room. You ARE to decorate each of the rooms suited to the each of us. You ARE to pay for all the renovations that is necessary. There will be no BUTs from you. Do as you are told. They will be living here until you make a decision. Daniel nodded. Bernice was always the one with solutions to every single thing. What would he do without her? But what should he do with the multiple ladies here. It would mean his freedom gone. But what freedom would he have now that his two minis is here?

Before he could even react. Bernice declared: Since we are living here together. Let me make this clear. You are to take shifts to take care of the child. You will have two maids hired here to help out. Salary wise would be controlled by me. I will divide up the portions equally so you do not fool around. Daniel nodded.

Bernice: Leave us Daniel for now. Let me settle the things with the ladies here. Go and grab some food for us. Sliced fish soup with spinach for Evans and Rena, fried fish soup with bee hoon for me and the lady beside you. Go.

He did so obediently. And then he counted his money salary divided by the group of ladies. He nearly wanted to kill himself.

He just just got a new car since the accident. He drove off and cried. The agony that his money was not his anymore.

The queue was darn long and it took him nearly an hour to get his food. But by he was already so hungry.

They listened to Bernice despite the age difference. Rena was too. She wasn’t particular about who the boss is but more that she could spend time with Dan and her child.

It was an easy meal when Gin offered to clean the tables.

Bernice: Daniel, you will go with me to the maid agency tomorrow. And then this is the lists of things they would like in their room. We will also see some interior designers tomorrow for it. Now. Pass me your bank book, credit cards, atm cards and all.

Daniel read the list:

Bernice interior: None.

Rena: A five star hotel room with a jacuuzi bathtub, a massage chair, built in wardrobe, wine cellar, Philippe Starck Mirror, a L shaped table for work and a King size waterbed.

Evans: treadmill in the room, clean and minimalist with build-in wardrobe, bathtub with built-in tv in the shower room. A Bose Lifestyle Surround system.

Gin: Marshmallow themed room with no sharp corners at all. Looking organic and fun. Stools and tables are to be mushroom shaped. A huge round bed like a gigantic marshmallow, and everything that fits into it.

He nearly wanted to commit suicide. And his thoughts were “Bernice treats me best.”

Bernice: Don’t be too happy yet. I just can’t think of any now. So you will write me a cheque equivalent to the amount you spend on each room. Also don’t forget about the playroom. I also think since there is a spare room, we should renovate it to suit the random themes you have and make it a guest room. Well you never know whose room would that be right. Her eyes were shining bright red, staring at Daniel.

Daniel: No… no.. no more.

Now his heart bled knowing that the ‘damages’ will reduce his saving by at least half or more.

Despite the random themes in his house, things were starting to look good. The interiors I mean.

Months passed and he soon adapted to the life with his so called lovers. Allison dropped by sometimes to say hello. Of course he had no time to go for drinks and stuff anymore. His friend heard about his ’earth shattering news’ and all texted: Wow good life huh? So many girls at your fingertips? So envious of you.

He always replied: You want to switch and see?

But living together did have its perks. Daniel could only watch as his face turned pale. Rena and Gin put their hands on their waists, ready to charge at him anytime now.

Daniel: Dears, I can explain.

A sweet duo slaps came landing on each side of his face. It was so hard it felt like burning. Bernice and Evans told Ting about what happened and before Daniel could react, a kick came in between his legs.

Ting: You idiot! Hmmph!

Daniel’s eyes nearly turned white.

Gin: It’s been a long time Dan. I missed you so much.

Dan: Me too (He said in a low voice for he was too tired.)

Dan: Are you going to let me off today?

Gin: Probably, only after you hear it.
