To start off with part 2 of the story, I decided to pen down a brief event that happened on my childhood life. I heard from some early childhood education experts that early events that happened in childhood will have impact on your adult life if they are not handled properly. About Lynn (me)
Lynn was born to a middle income family of 5, dad, mum, elder brother and a younger sister. Dad is a traditional man who owned a small business. He spent most of his time in his business except for the 1st 3 days of Lunar New Year.
Mum became a full time housewife after gave birth to Lynn’s elder brother. She is a gentle lady with a spirit of steel. Mum was born in Malaysia but came to Singapore to work at the age of 20.
As Dad is a traditional man, he only pays attention to his elder and only son. Lynn being the middle child is always a ‘fighter’, fighting for her parents’ attention and love. Maybe it was a blessing in disguised, with the least attention from her parents, she was free to make her own decision since young about almost everything. In a way, she is quite an independent and resourceful girl.
In her childhood memory, there was an incident that affected her badly. It happened when she was 10 years old…
Mum discovered that dad was having an affair with a rich divorcee. In those days of affair, dad was a totally changed man. He started to take special care of his appearance like dressed smartly and put on cologne which he never did before. He treated home like a hotel, only returned to change and sleep.
Although mum stayed home most of the time, she sometimes helped out at dad’s business once in a while. So mum knew some of dad’s friends and went around asking them for the contact of his ‘mistress’. Finally mum got it.
On that fateful day, Lynn can still remember clearly, mum brought Lynn and her younger sister to visit the mistress. The mistress was staying in a huge and beautifully decorated 2 storey house. Lynn’s family only stayed in a HDB flat.
The mistress was a tall and elegantly dressed lady with nice make-up. In comparison, mum was shabby like any other housewives who do not take special care of their appearance. Sister was too young to understand what was going on but Lynn stared at the mistress in great hostility. Ready to pounce on her if she has even a slight intention to hurt mum!
Mum and the mistress exchanged some conversation. Out of a sudden, mum ordered Lynn and her sister to kneel down with her before the mistress to beg her to leave dad. Though Lynn was young, she could feel the great humiliation mum faced. All the mistress did was just telling mum that it was all up to dad, she can’t force him to do anything. With that, she walked up the stairs to her bedroom on 2nd storey.
They were all in tears when they left the house.
That night, dad came home after work. He was furious at mum for going to his mistress’ house. They were in heated argument and dad slapped mum several times. Lynn heard the slaps and rushed out from the bedroom crying and pushing her dad away from mum. She too got slapped for her action. After that, dad left home and did not return for the next few days.
Dad eventually broke off with his mistress under the great pressure of his brothers and sisters whom mum seek help from. Life returned back to normal for the family but it was never the same for Lynn.
After this incident and at the age of 11, Lynn vowed she will never end up like her mum who was financially dependent on her dad thus always has to be at his mercy no matter what happened. Lynn also said to herself that she will not let any man hurt her like what dad did to mum. So to protect herself she must not fall in love with any guy. And she despised home-wreckers!!!
Ironically, she became someone she despised since young when she was with Shin…

As for me, my childhood days made me a very strong and independent man… A man that never say die and gives up without a good fight… Never succumb to fate… It seems like you are a female version of me…
